Due giornate di incontri, workshop e proiezioni all’insegna di “Le isole del cinema”; a Cagliari, venerdì 25 e sabato 26 ottobre, il circuito dei quattro festival cinematografici delle “isole minori” della Sardegna si racconta e ragiona sui temi che caratterizzano ciascuna manifestazione: il cinema italiano e la regia per Una notte in Italia dell’isola di Tavolara (che dal 16 al 21 luglio ha festeggiato la sua ventunesima edizione); la recitazione per La valigia dell’attore di La Maddalena (al traguardo della decima edizione dal 24 al 28 luglio scorsi); la scrittura e la sceneggiatura per Pensieri e parole dell’Asinara (l’ottava edizione si è tenuta dal 5 all’8 settembre); la musica per il cinema, infine, per Creuza de Mà di Carloforte, il paese sull’isola di San Pietro (settima edizione dal 13 al 15 settembre).

Un programma denso di appuntamenti (tutti con ingresso gratuito) e motivi di interesse attende il pubblico al Cineworld, il centro multisala di viale Monastir, in compagnia di ospiti come i registi Giuliano Montaldo e Gianfranco Giagni, il compositore Franco Piersanti, lo sceneggiatore Massimo Gaudioso, i critici cinematografici Steve Della Casa, Piera Detassis, Enrico Magrelli e Luca Bandirali, il direttore del Centro Regionale di Programmazione della Regione Sardegna Gianluca Cadeddu, Francesca Solinas, presidente onorario Premio Solinas, i docenti universitari Lucia Cardone e Fabrizio Deriu.

Nel corso della manifestazione, ognuno dei quattro festival del circuito “Le isole del cinema” proporrà un workshop sulla stessa traccia di quelli che solitamente si tengono nei rispettivi contesti e incentrato sul proprio ambito tematico: la regia e i protagonisti del cinema, il lavoro d’attore, la scrittura, la musica.

Complemento ideale agli incontri di approfondimento, una mini-rassegna di documentari di Gianfranco Giagni sui mestieri del cinema, e “Alberto il Grande”, l’omaggio di Carlo e Luca Verdone alla memoria e alla figura di Alberto Sordi, a dieci anni dalla scomparsa dell’indimenticabile attore romano.

Altre visioni e suggestioni in una mostra fotografica retrospettiva (aperta fino al 4 novembre) che racconterà, attraverso le immagini scattate negli anni, la storia e i protagonisti di ciascun festival.

Fra gli appuntamenti in scaletta, una tavola rotonda porrà l’accento sull’importanza di investire in cultura, e in particolare nella filiera del cinema, in un paese come l’Italia e in una regione come la Sardegna.

Ciliegina sulla torta, un incontro con Giuliano Montaldo, preceduto dalla proiezione di documentario di Marco Spagnoli dedicato al grande regista genovese e seguito da quella di un “classico” della sua filmografia, “Sacco e Vanzetti”.

La due giorni cagliaritana suggella il biennio di attività di “Le isole del cinema” che rientrano nel progetto “La Sardegna cresce con l’Europa”, cofinanziato dall’Unione Europea attraverso il FESR (Fondo Europeo di Sviluppo Regionale), e completa l’articolato programma di iniziative di informazione e promozione organizzato da Kassiopea Group a sostegno del circuito, dei suoi quattro festival e delle bellissime isole che li ospitano.

Il programma
L’evento finale de Le isole del cinema si apre venerdì 25 alle 16 con un incontro riservato ai giornalisti, con Giuliano Montaldo e gli altri ospiti della due giorni, seguito dall’inaugurazione della mostra fotografica, allestita nella hall del multisala: qui le immagini più belle scattate in questi anni sui set dei quattro festival consorziati, a Tavolara, La Maddalena, l’Asinara e Carloforte, saranno visionabili fino al prossimo 4 novembre.

La giornata prosegue con il primo dei quattro workshop confezionati dai festival aderenti al circuito: apre la serie, alle 17 (nella sala 9) “La musica e il suono nel cinema”, evento curato da Creuza de Mà di Carloforte. Protagonista dell’incontro è Franco Piersanti, compositore e direttore d’orchestra romano che nella sua carriera ha certamente stabilito un rapporto speciale con il cinema, sfociato in un centinaio di colonne sonore, tra cui quelle composte per molti dei film più apprezzati di Nanni Moretti e Gianni Amelio. Attraverso la testimonianza dei suoi rapporti creativi con i grandi registi con cui ha collaborato, Piersanti – insieme all’ideatore e direttore artistico di Creuza de Mà, il regista Gianfranco Cabiddu (per il quale, nel 1997, ha firmato le musiche de “Il figlio di Bakunin”) e allo studioso di musica per il cinema Luca Bandirali – approfondisce la funzione fondamentale della musica nel cinema.

Alle 18.30 (ancora nella sala 9) passaggio del testimone tra un’isola e l’altra, da Carloforte a La Maddalena, per un focus su “Il lavoro dell’attore”, leitmotiv del festival che da dieci anni si tiene nella bella isola a nord est della Sardegna. Sul palco l’ideatrice e direttrice artistica della manifestazione Giovanna Gravina (figlia di Gianmaria Volonté, dedicatario del festival), insieme a Fabrizio Deriu, specialista nel campo degli studi teorici delle arti performative, saggista, ricercatore e docente dell’Università di Teramo. A guidare la loro conversazione, alcuni video registrati durante i laboratori sul lavoro dell’attore, tenuti in questi anni da artisti del calibro di Toni Servillo, Paolo Rossi, Pierfrancesco Favino e Sonia Bergamasco.

La seconda giornata apre i suoi lavori fin dalla mattina (interamente ospitata nella sala 9): alle 10 è in programma “La scrittura e il cinema”, il workshop curato dal festival Pensieri e parole dell’Asinara. Il direttore artistico Sante Maurizi e lo sceneggiatore (ma anche regista e attore) Massimo Gaudioso affrontano un aspetto sempre delicato per chi fa cinema: la trasposizione di un’opera letteraria sul grande schermo. Un problema con cui Gaudioso si è dovuto confrontare nella stesura della sceneggiatura di “Gomorra”, il film diretto da Matteo Garrone tratto dal bestseller di Roberto Saviano.

Alle 11 arriva un momento dal sapore squisitamente letterario: Steve Della Casa, critico cinematografico, giornalista, saggista esperto di cinema popolare presenta il suo libro “Splendor. Storia (inconsueta) del cinema italiano”, un gustoso campionario di aneddoti poco noti che attraversano la storia del nostro cinema, dagli esordi dei primi del Novecento a oggi, pubblicato quest’anno dalle edizioni Laterza.

La chiusura della sessione mattutina è nel segno di uno degli appuntamenti più significativi dell’intera due giorni: la tavola rotonda “Il cinema, leva strategica per la crescita economica e culturale della Sardegna”. Condotto da Enrico Magrelli, critico cinematografico, giornalista, autore e conduttore radiofonico, oltre che Conservatore della Cineteca Nazionale, il dibattito coinvolge Piera Detassis, critico cinematografico, giornalista, saggista, direttore artistico di festival e mostre nazionali e internazionali, Francesca Solinas, presidente onorario del Premio Solinas, oltre al già citato Steve Della Casa (che porta l’esperienza della Torino Piemonte Film Commission, di cui è stato presidente dal 2006 al 2013). A tirare le fila dell’incontro, gettando uno sguardo al futuro del settore culturale e dello stesso circuito, sarà Gianluca Cadeddu, direttore del Centro Regionale di Programmazione della Regione Sardegna, chiamato a tratteggiare gli scenari che si aprono con la nuova programmazione 2014 – 2020 dei Fondi strutturali europei.

Dopo una pausa pranzo per i partecipanti iscritti alle attività della giornata, con un buffet a base di prodotti locali, si riprende con una scaletta intensa. Alle 15.30 (nella sala 7) è in programma “Il cinema racconta il cinema”, una mini-rassegna di documentari di Gianfranco Giagni che, proiettati lungo tutto il pomeriggio, raccontano i mestieri della settima arte. In programma “Sartoria Tirelli, vestire il cinema” (ore 16), “Dante Ferretti, scenografo italiano” (alle 17) e “Carlo!”, dedicato alla vita e al lavoro di Carlo Verdone, realizzato da Giagni insieme a Fabio Ferzetti. Alle 20.30 chiude il ciclo “Alberto il Grande”, l’omaggio alla straordinaria figura di Alberto Sordi, firmato proprio da Carlo Verdone insieme al fratello Luca.

Parallelamente, nella sala 9, va “in scena” un’altra ricca tranche del programma. Apre la sessione, alle 16, il workshop curato da Una notte in Italia di Tavolara, che chiude il cerchio degli incontri tematici proposti dai quattro festival de “Le isole del cinema”. Marco Navone, cofondatore e organizzatore della manifestazione, conduce un approfondimento su “Promuovere il cinema, la direzione artistica di festival e eventi”, un tema sviluppato con il qualificato contributo di Lucia Cardone, docente di Storia e critica del cinema e Paesaggi audiovisivi al Dipartimento di Scienze Umanistiche e Sociali dell’Università di Sassari, e di Piera Detassis, che oltre ad essere direttrice artistica del festival di Tavolara, è impegnata anche con altre importanti manifestazioni cinematografiche internazionali tra cui il Festival di Roma e la cerimonia di consegna del Ciak d’oro, il premio istituito dalla rivista omonima, che dirige da oltre dieci anni.

Il gran finale della due giorni è un lungo abbraccio al grande Giuliano Montaldo, maestro del cinema italiano. L’omaggio al regista genovese, classe 1930, parte alle 17.30 con la proiezione di “Giuliano Montaldo. Quattro volte vent’anni”, il documentario che gli ha dedicato Marco Spagnoli. A seguire, il cineasta è protagonista di un incontro con Piera Detassis, Fabrizio Deriu, Enrico Magrelli e Luca Bandirali: ognuno di loro, in rappresentanza di uno dei festival consorziati, stimolerà le riflessioni del regista sul proprio tema: recitazione, regia, scrittura e musica nel cinema. Chiude la serata (e l’intera due giorni), alle 20.30, la proiezione di “Sacco e Vanzetti”, il capolavoro di Montaldo interpretato dal grandissimo Gian Maria Volonté, e da Riccardo Cucciolla, Cyril Cusack e Rosanna Fratello.

A packed program of events (all with free admission) and the interest of the public expects the Cineworld multiplex the center of Viale Monastir, together with guests such as directors Giuliano Montaldo and Gianfranco Giagni, the composer Franco Piersanti, writer Massimo Gaudioso , film critics Steve Della Casa Piera Detassis, Henry and Luke Magrelli Bandirali, the Director of the Regional Centre of the Region of Sardinia Programming Gianluca Cadeddu, Francesca Solinas, honorary president Solinas Award, academics Lucia and Fabrizio Cardone Deriu.

During the event, each of the four festival circuit “The islands of the cinema” offering a workshop on the same track of the ones that usually are held in their respective contexts and focused on the field of interest: the director and stars of cinema, the work d ‘ actor, writing, music.

The ideal complement to the in-depth meetings, a mini-collection of documentaries by Gianfranco Giagni on the jobs of cinema, and “Albert the Great,” the tribute of Charles and Luca Verdone memory and the figure of Alberto Sordi, ten years after his death the unforgettable Roman actor.

Other views and suggestions in a retrospective photo exhibition (open until 4 November) that will tell through the pictures taken over the years, the story and the characters of each festival.

Among the events in the lineup, a panel discussion will emphasize the importance of investing in culture, and in particular in the sector of cinema, in a country like Italy and in a region such as Sardinia.

The icing on the cake, a meeting with Giuliano Montaldo, preceded by the screening of documentary filmmaker Marco Spagnoli dedicated to the great Genoese and followed by that of a “classic” of his filmography, “Sacco and Vanzetti.”

The two-day Cagliari seals the two-year period of activity of “The islands of the cinema” within the project “Sardinia grows with Europe”, co-financed by the European Union through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), and the full ‘ program of information and promotion initiatives organized by Kassiopea Group in support of the circuit, its four festivals and beautiful islands that host them.

The program
The final event of the islands of the film opens on Friday 25 at 16 with a meeting reserved for journalists, with Giuliano Montaldo and other guests of the two days, followed by the inauguration of photo exhibition, held in the lobby of the multiplex: the images here the most beautiful in recent years taken on the set of the four festival consortium, to Tavolara, La Maddalena, Asinara and Carlisle, will be on display until November 4.

The day continues with the first of four workshops packaged by participating in the festival circuit: opens the series at 17 (room 9) “The music and the sound in the cinema”, an event organized by Creuza de Ma of Carlisle. The protagonist of the meeting Franco Piersanti, composer and conductor Roman who in his career has certainly established a special relationship with the cinema, which resulted in hundreds of soundtracks, including those composed for many of the most appreciated films of Nanni Moretti and Gianni Amelio. Through the testimony of his creative relationships with the great directors with whom he collaborated, Piersanti – along with the creator and artistic director of Creuza de Ma, director Gianfranco Cabiddu (for which, in 1997, he signed the music of “The son Bakunin “) and scholar of music for the cinema Luca Bandirali – Looks at the vital role of music in film.

At 18:30 (still in the hall 9) passing of the baton from one island to another, from Carloforte La Maddalena, for a focus on “The work of the actor,” leitmotiv of the festival that is held for ten years in the beautiful island north east of Sardinia. On stage, the creator and artistic director of the event Giovanna Gravina (daughter of Gianmaria Volonte, the dedicatee of the festival), along with Fabrizio Deriu, a specialist in the field of theoretical studies of the performing arts, writer, researcher and lecturer at the University of Teramo. A guide their conversation, some video recorded during the workshops on the actor’s work, held in recent years by the likes of Toni Servillo, Paolo Rossi, Pierfrancesco Field bean and Sonia Bergamasco.

The second day begins its work early in the morning (entirely hosted in the hall 9): to 10 is scheduled for “The writing and the cinema”, the workshop curated by the festival Thoughts and words dell. The artistic director and screenwriter Sante Maurizi (as well as director and actor) Massimo Gaudioso face an increasingly sensitive to those who make movies: the transposition of a literary work on the big screen. A problem with which Gaudioso was confronted in drafting the screenplay for “Gomorrah”, the film directed by Matteo Garrone, based on the bestseller by Roberto Saviano.

At 11 there comes a time from the exquisitely literary Steve Della Casa, film critic, journalist, essayist, expert on popular movie presents his book “Splendor. History (unusual) of Italian cinema”, a tasty collection of little-known anecdotes crossing the history of Italian cinema, from the beginnings of the early twentieth century to today, published this year by Yale University Press editions.

The closing of the morning session is in the sign of one of the most significant events of the entire two days, the round table “The cinema, a strategic lever for economic and cultural growth of Sardinia.” Conducted by Henry Magrelli, film critic, journalist, author and radio host, as well as Curator of the National Film Archive, the debate involves Piera Detassis, film critic, journalist, essayist, artistic director of festivals and national and international exhibitions, Francesca Solinas, honorary president Solinas Prize, in addition to the previously mentioned Steve Della Casa (which brings the experience of the Turin Piedmont Film Commission, of which he was president from 2006 to 2013). A summing up of the meeting, casting a glance at the future of the cultural sector and the same circuit, it will Gianluca Cadeddu, director of the Center for Regional Planning of the Region of Sardinia, called to outline scenarios that start with the new programming period 2014 – 2020 European Structural Funds.

After a lunch break for registered participants in the activities of the day with a buffet of local produce, intense shooting with a ladder. At 15.30 (room 7) is in the program “Cinema tells the cinema”, a mini-collection of documentaries by Gianfranco Giagni which, when projected throughout the afternoon, tell the trades of the seventh art. On the program “Sartoria Tirelli, dress the cinema” (16 pm), “Dante Ferretti, production designer Italian” (at 17) and “too small”, dedicated to the life and work of Carlo Verdone, made by Giagni with Fabio Ferzetti. At 20.30 closes the loop “Albert the Great”, a tribute to the extraordinary figure of Alberto Sordi, just signed by Carlo Verdone with his brother Luke.

In parallel, in room 9, it should be “on stage” another rich tranche of the program. Logs, at 16, the workshop edited by A Night in Italy Tavolara, which closes the circle of thematic meetings proposed by the four festivals of “The islands of the cinema.” Marco Navone, co-founder and organizer of the event, leads a discussion on “Promoting the cinema, the artistic director of festivals and events,” a theme developed with the contribution of qualified Lucia Cardone, Professor of History and Criticism of Cinema and Audiovisual Department Landscapes of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sassari, and Piera Detassis, as well as being the artistic director of the festival of Tavolara, is also involved with other major international film festivals, including the Festival of Rome and the award ceremony of the Ciak d ‘gold, the prize established by the magazine of the same name, which runs for over ten years.

The grand finale of the two-days is a long embrace the great Giuliano Montaldo, master of Italian cinema. The tribute to the Genoese, born in 1930, the 17.30 with the screening of “Giuliano Montaldo. Four times twenty years,” the documentary that has dedicated Marco Spagnoli. Afterwards, the filmmaker is leading a meeting with Piera Detassis, Fabrizio Deriu, Henry and Luke Magrelli Bandirali: each of them representing one of the festivals consortium, will stimulate the reflections of the director on its theme: acting, directing, writing and music in film. Closes the evening (and the entire two days), at 20.30, the screening of “Sacco and Vanzetti”, the masterpiece of Montaldo interpreted by the great Gian Maria Volonte, and Riccardo Cucciolla, Cyril Cusack and Rosanna Fratello.
