Humour graffiante e temi scottanti per una commedia brillante e “politicamente scorretta”:  mercoledì 4 dicembre alle 20.30  si apre il sipario su “The History Boys” di Alan Bennett, nel cartellone de  “La Grande Prosa al Teatro Massimo” di Cagliari per la stagione 2013-14 del  CeDAC nella felice (e pluripremiata) versione del Teatro dell’Elfo, per la regia di  Ferdinando Bruni e Elio De Capitani. Cuore della pièce l’età difficile dell’adolescenza, tra le metamorfosi della psiche e del corpo, la passione per la cultura e l’esuberanza della giovinezza, attraverso le vicende di un gruppo di ragazzi alle prese con gli esami di ammissione all’università: l’ultimo anno di college segna il passaggio fondamentale tra due stagioni dell’esistenza, ma è anche momento di confronto e dialogo tra generazioni sul tema cruciale dell’importanza della cultura.
“The History Boys” sarà in scena da mercoledì 4 a sabato 7 dicembre alle 20.30 (turni A,B,C,D) e domenica 8 dicembre alle 19 (turno E), mentre la pomeridiana di giovedì 5 dicembre è anticipata alle 16.30 (turno P).
Il fascino della grande letteratura e in particolare della poesia entra con forza dirompente nelle vite dei ragazzi, mentre un’opportunità che potrebbe decidere il loro futuro si gioca in quei pochi e intensi mesi di studio ma l’attenzione viene catturata anche da aspetti più prosaici e da risvolti più personali. La commedia affronta argomenti delicati e questioni etiche e morali che appartengono alla sfera più universalmente umana. Temi che ancora oggi in Italia fanno discutere, come l’omosessualità e le differenze religiose, affiorano insieme alla fragilità psicologica degli uni e l’ostentata sicurezza degli altri, in un vivido affresco corale.
Le singole note caratteriali, il vissuto di ognuno ne condizionano atteggiamenti e comportamenti e la scuola diventa il teatro dell’autorappresentazione di sé, ma anche lo spazio protetto in cui rimettersi in gioco manifestando dubbi e convinzioni, per smantellare antichi pregiudizi e innate paure. Una palestra per i giovani uomini del futuro – in cui i professori recitano una parte importante nella definizione della personalità dei loro allievi. “The History Boys” possiede la leggerezza – e la ferocia – della commedia, mette a nudo i suoi protagonisti trasformandoli in figure emblematiche in cui si riconoscono frammenti di realtà.
Una pièce scoppiettante e coinvolgente, apprezzata da pubblico e critica – vincitrice di tre Olivier Awards e sei Tony Awards nella versione originale inglese, e di tre Premi Ubu nel 2011 e del Premio Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano nel 2012 nella mise en scène del Teatro dell’Elfo –  capace di toccare la mente e il cuore, con l’incanto della poesia e l’ingenua malizia dell’adolescenza, in un viaggio nei labirinti dell’animo umano.

Heart of the play the difficult age of adolescence, between the metamorphosis of the psyche and the body, the passion for the culture and the exuberance of youth, through the story of a group of kids struggling with college entrance exams : The last year of college marks the transition between two basic seasons of existence, but it is also time for discussion and dialogue between generations on the crucial issue of the importance of culture.
” The History Boys ” will be staged from Wednesday 4 to Saturday, December 7th at 20.30 ( shifts A, B, C, D) and Sunday, December 8 at 19 ( E round ), while the afternoon of Thursday, December 5th is anticipated at 16.30 ( shift P).
The charm of great literature and especially poetry comes with a disruptive force in the lives of boys , while an opportunity that could decide their future playing in those few months of intense study, but the attention is captured by even the most prosaic and more personal aspects . The play deals with sensitive issues and ethical and moral issues that belong to the sphere of the most universally human . Topics that even today in Italy are discussed, such as homosexuality and religious differences emerge along with the psychological fragility of some and the flaunted safety of others, in a vivid choral fresco .
The individual character notes , the experience of each will influence attitudes and behavior and the school becomes the theater of self- self , but also protected space in which back in the game expressing doubts and convictions, to dismantle the ancient innate prejudices and fears. A gym for the young men of the future – in which professors play a part in defining the personality of their students. ” The History Boys ” has the lightness – and ferocity – of comedy, bares its protagonists turning them into emblematic figures in which you can recognize fragments of reality .
A crackling play and addictive appreciated by critics and audiences – winner of three Olivier Awards and six Tony Awards in the original English version , and three Awards Ubu Prize in 2011 and The Masks of the Italian Theatre in 2012 in the mise en scène of the Theatre of ‘ Elf – able to touch the mind and the heart, with the charm of poetry and the naive adolescent mischief , a journey through the labyrinths of the human soul .
