Jazz in Sardegna, Cala Gonone Jazz, Ai Confini tra Sardegna e Jazz e Rocce Rocce & Blues si uniscono per rendere omaggio a Isio Saba con l’evento speciale “Remembering Isio”, a Ozieri, il suo paese natale.
Il 6 settembre il trio Riccardo Lay-Gavino Murgia-Pietro Iodice, i Tenores di Bitti, la partecipazione straordinaria di Babà Sissoko (solo), “griot” del Mali i cui ritmi africani si fondono con i battiti del profondo blues americano, l’Orchestra di fiati di Gianluigi Pani e il trio Marcello Zappareddu, Gian Mario Pala e Alfideo Farina
<<Sardinia Amore è una delle composizioni di Lester, nata nelle vigne intorno ad Ozieri o forse in qualche montagna barbaricina, ma potrebbe essere in una spiaggia isolata del Sulcis, dove lui s’inseriva con la sua tromba rompendo magici silenzi interrotti dal vento, campanacci di pecore, ululati di cani, i rumori della natura che lui amava. Una composizione che interpretava o citava spesso nei suoi concerti, come un amore che non ha bisogno di molte parole perché fa parte di quello che senti, della tua vita, di te stesso>>. Così di Lester Bowie raccontava, tra aneddoti e momenti memorabili, Isio Saba, scomparso questa primavera, manager e fotografo che ha contribuito a fondare le più importanti rassegne di jazz nell’isola portando su quei palchi i più
grandi nomi della musica afroamericana come Lester Bowie, Sun Ra, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Max Roach, B. B. King, e tantissimi altri.
Non solo operatore musicale ma anche appassionato di jazz, di fotografia, e grande amico di quei musicisti, mostri sacri del jazz e della musica mondiale. Li portava non solo sui palchi della Sardegna ma anche nel suo amatissimo paese, Ozieri, o in giro per l’isola per far conoscere loro e toccare la magnifica terra che li ospitava, le sue peculiarità, i cibi e i vini, i paesaggi, la storia, le tradizioni. Per ricordare Isio Saba, originario di Ozieri, ma romano, newyorkese e infine calabrese di adozione, i quattro festival sardi Jazz in Sardegna, Cala Gonone Jazz, Ai Confini tra Sardegna e Jazz e Rocce Rocce & Blues hanno condiviso di comune accordo l’idea di produrre, insieme ad Around Jazz e al Comune di Ozieri, l’evento annuale “Remebering Isio” rivolto a colui che senza ombra di dubbio è stato il principale artefice dello sviluppo del jazz nella nostra isola.
Presentato mercoledì durante la conferenza stampa presso la sede del Municipio di Ozieri dai direttori artistici insieme agli amministratori comunali e ai familiari di Saba, l’evento è stato illustrato nel dettaglio e negli intenti. Una serata speciale non solo per ricordare la sua figura, ma anche per cercare di non perdere il grande patrimonio che ha lasciato, a partire da quello fotografico, come ha ricordato Massimo Palmas, direttore artistico di Jazz in Sardegna, nel corso dell’incontro: <<Isio è stato un creativo, il vero personaggio chiave per lo sviluppo della musica in Sardegna, grazie a lui la musica afroamericana è approdata qui contribuendo a fondare i festival jazz internazionali, e noi in misura e circostanze diverse abbiamo con lui un debito di paternità. Questo evento vogliamo che sia aperto a tutte le collaborazioni, e che sia caratterizzato da un cartellone di primo livello con un occhio rivolto al futuro, produrre progetti originali portando grandi musicisti internazionali e talenti emergenti, sconosciuti, che possano attraverso il suo nome avere una spinta ed emergere>>.
Jazz e mescolanze musicali, ma anche la creazione di un contesto culturale stabile di confronto in cui cercare il terreno per progetti nuovi risultato della commistione tra artisti delle più varie estrazioni, una linea di tendenza tracciata da Isio sin dalla fine degli anni ’70 e che ha impresso caratteri di innovazione in Sardegna grazie a cui la stessa isola ha potuto aprirsi alle diverse culture musicali e non solo, dall’altra parte del mare, come ha aggiunto Giuseppe Giordano, direttore artistico di Cala Gonone Jazz: <<La nostra partecipazione è fortemente voluta e sentita perchè la Sardegna grazie a Isio è diventata non solo contenitore di un genere e di una fortissima corrente culturale come quella jazzistica, ma anche uno strumento di esportazione della nostra cultura. La nostra presenza qui è un invito, un auspicio a far sì che tutte le incompiute di Isio possano realizzarsi>>. Una giornata di ricordo che il Comune di Ozieri vuole dedicare a colui che ha dato tanto a questa comunità e alla Sardegna, come ha spiegato l’Assessore alla Cultura Giuseppina Sanna: <<Isio Saba ha reso il nostro paese una piazza importante per la cultura e per il jazz sin dalla fine degli anni ’70, e noi con questo evento di rilevanza internazionale cercheremo di rilanciare le sue iniziative e portare avanti i suoi progetti >>.
Il programma
Il 6 settembre a Ozieri a partire dalle ore 20,30 si succederanno una serie di concerti con alcuni dei più grandi artisti della Sardegna e del jazz mondiale molto legati a Saba, sul palco dello Stadietto San Gavino di Ozieri: il jazz istintivo, travolgente, del trio Riccardo Lay-Gavino Murgia-Pietro Iodice, un emozionante progetto sonoro, sintesi di una musica naturale che Lay e
Murgia portano avanti da diversi anni guidati da una musica dove le variazioni sono dettate dall’elemento passionale e dall’amore sconfinato per il retroterra culturale a cui appartengono e che fondono con l’esperienza acquisita in diversi anni di carriera musicale e con il talento del batterista napoletano Pietro Iodice, tra i più richiesti nel panorama jazz nazionale e internazionale. Il risultato è uno dei pochi esempi concreti di contaminazione tra la nostra musica popolare e il jazz; i Tenores di Bitti “Remunnu ‘e Locu”, tra i più conosciuti nel mondo, forti di uno stile meno aspro degli altri stili vocali della Sardegna, esemplari ricercatori del proprio patrimonio, impeccabili esecutori dalle eccezionali qualità vocali, ammirate in tutta la Sardegna e nel mondo intero. Infine la partecipazione straordinaria di Baba Sissoko (solo), “griot” del Mali tra i maggiori esponenti della musica etnica e jazz, da anni impegnato nella diffusione della tradizione orale del suo paese nel mondo, i cui ritmi africani si fondono con quelli del profondo blues americano. Poliritmie musicali, ossessive, spirituali e ipnotiche, tra gli afro-ritmi dettati dallo n’goni, il karanjan ed il tama: un esperto del “tempo” sostenuto dai suoi stessi battiti e dal resto della sua “strumentazione multietnica” che richiama, in un pout-pourri di contaminazioni, profumi e colori intensi, le antiche suggestioni della Madre Africa; e ancora l’Orchestra di fiati di Gianluigi Pani e il trio Marcello Zappareddu, Gian
Mario Pala e Alfideo Farina. L’ingresso è gratuito.
Un viaggio tra le rotte di Isio Saba e del sud, tra territori multiculturali e suoni ancestrali delle isole che attraversano la Sardegna, il Mediterraneo, l’Africa e i sobborghi di New Orleans fino a Chicago, all’Art Ensemble, e finalmente a Ozieri, con le “interazioni” tra il jazz e le musiche del mondo che lo stesso Isio promuoveva a pieni voti, come gli piaceva sottolineare riferendosi sempre alla musica di Lester Bowie, giunto per la prima volta in Sardegna proprio grazie a lui: <<Forse per questo l’eredità musicale di Lester è rispettosamente ricordata e non riprodotta, perchè lui era un improvvisatore che aveva come sorgente le sue radici, la tradizione della “Great Black Music”, il confronto con altre forme musicali di tutto il mondo. Bowie è stato una colonna portante della storia del jazz in Sardegna non solo per l’attività musicale a Cagliari, ma per gli stimoli straordinari che ha dato a questa terra, suscitando tra i giovani cagliaritani e sardi la voglia di crescere culturalmente tra le correnti più vive della contemporaneità. Un musicista eccezionale che noi tutti insieme siamo riusciti a portare, mettendo in atto quel meccanismo di sprovincializzazione che porterà il pubblico della Sardegna a vedere il mondo con uno sguardo più ampio, oltre il mare, e sicuramente se ne ricorderanno gli amici di Alghero, Sassari, Ozieri, Nuoro, Cala Gonone, Arbatax, Bitti, Carbonia, S.
