Un bel lavoro, firmato Walter Veltroni, accurato e commovente.
“Quando c’era Berlinguer” è la fotografia di un personaggio ma, più che altro, una memoria della nostra storia, dal dopoguerra agli anni 80, raccontata attraverso la figura del segretario del PCI.

Il documentario di Veltroni comincia con un vox populi divertente e amaro: l’autore va in giro a chiedere ai giovani e non solo, chi era Enrico Berlinguer? In pochi, almeno tra le interviste montate nel doc, lo sanno, spesso confondendolo con qualcun altro e scatenando un effetto comico, favorito anche dalla romanità degli intervistati, utile a sdrammatizzare sin da subito una figura da sempre associata alla serietà.
L’Italia di Berlinguer era diversa, il mondo era diverso; si andava a Mosca a discutere di comunismo, e il segretario del PCI gliene cantò quattro, in un discorso globale in cui lui rappresentava il partito comunista più grande dell’occidente (e dei paesi liberi). Ma Berlinguer era anche l’uomo degli accordi, del compromesso storico, dell’ipotesi di governo insieme alla Dc, argomento e situazione che sembra dopo 40 anni tanto attuale.
Veltroni, grazie forse al suo status, riesce ad inserire nel documentario, ricche interviste al Presidente Napolitano ma anche, ai vecchi compagni di partito come Tortorella e Macaluso , arricchendo il tutto con immagini di repertorio cine televisivo e realizzando un film di alto livello qualitativo.

Un racconto sincero e sentito ma anche competente e ricco di aneddoti che quasi certamente in pochi avrebbero potuto realizzare, a trent’anni dalla scomparsa, sul grande uomo, politico, segretario del PCI che era Enrico Berlinguer.

” When there was Berlinguer ” is a photograph of a character but , more than anything else , a memory of our history, from the postwar period to 80 years , told through the figure of the secretary of the PCI .

The documentary begins with a vox populi Veltroni funny and bitter : the author goes around asking for young people and not just those who were Enrico Berlinguer ? In short , at least among the interviews mounted in the doc , I know , often confusing it with someone else and unleashing a comic effect , the respondents also favored by Roman , useful to defuse a figure from the very beginning has always been associated with reliability .
Italy Berlinguer was different, the world was different , you went to Moscow to discuss communism , and the secretary of the PCI him sang four global discourse in which he represented the Communist Party of the largest of the West ( and free countries ) . But Berlinguer was also the man of the agreements, the historic compromise , the hypothesis of government along with the Democrats, topic and situation that seems so relevant after 40 years .
Veltroni, perhaps thanks to its status , unable to insert in the documentary , full interviews , but also to President Napolitano , the old party comrades as Tortorella and Macaluso , enriching the whole with stock footage cinema and television and making a film of high quality .

A sincere and heartfelt narrative but also competent and full of anecdotes that almost certainly would have been able to achieve in a few , thirty years after his death, the great man, politician , secretary of the PCI was Enrico Berlinguer .
