Il sale della terra è un viaggio incredibile per il mondo visto dagli occhi e dall’obiettivo di Sebastiao Salgado, raccontato da lui stesso, da suo figlio e da Wim Wenders attraverso una serie di fotografie a dir poco magnifiche. Forse è anche riduttivo chiamarle solo “fotografie”; le immagini che Salgado ha immortalato nel corso del suo girovagare da una parte all’altra del pianeta, sono un ritratto della bellezza del mondo e una testimonianza del male che il genere umano ha fatto (e continua a fare) ai doni del Creato; Salgado ha visitato e immortalato sconfinati territori inesplorati, foreste che sembrano incantate e regioni sperdute in capo al mondo, ma lungo il suo cammino è stato anche testimone di genocidi, carestie e brutalità di ogni genere. Wenders ne ha fatto un collage delle esperienze in fotografie di Salgado, scatenando nello spettatore emozioni e sentimenti forti e contrastanti. Grazie anche al supporto, fondamentale, della voce narrante del fotografo stesso, ci si commuove fino alle lacrime, si prova vergogna assistendo a quello che i nostri simili sono stati capaci di fare al mondo e agli esseri umani, si resta a bocca aperta davanti alla maestosità di certi paesaggi, si avvertono strette al cuore al passaggio di immagini esplicite ma mai gratuite e si finisce con il coraggio di nutrire ancora una speranza; se esistono uomini come Sebastiao Salgado e i suoi famigliari e collaboratori, non tutto è ancora perduto. Un documentario emozionante, poetico e scioccante. Un’opera che resta impressa nel cuore e nella testa.

Ermanno Olmi ha scelto di girare in trincea a 1.100 e 1.800 metri il suo film torneranno i prati “per avere le vere facce da freddo” e per ricostruire il senso di isolamento vissuto dai soldati della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Sull’Altipiano di Asiago, dove ha scelto di vivere, il regista bergamasco ha ricostruito il caposaldo italiano, il camminamento, il bunker e il ricovero dove si svolgono le poche ore del suo film girato tutto in una notte di luna.

“Credo che la celebrazione del centenario della Prima Guerra Mondiale non abbia alcun senso se non chiediamo scusa per il tradimento di cui siamo stati colpevoli nei confronti dei giovani e dei milioni di morti in quel conflitto”. Dall’ospedale milanese San Raffaele in cui è tuttora ricoverato, Ermanno Olmi usa parole dure per il videomessaggio inviato all’anteprima stampa del suo Torneranno i prati, nelle sale dal 6 novembre. C’è un’urgente sacralità nelle sue dichiarazioni, distillate e chiare come di consueto, perché di fronte a tanto dolore non si può (più) ingannare. Di fatto, il suo film “non è sulla guerra, ma su dolore della guerra” spiega il protagonista Claudio Santamaria, ancora emozionato per aver lavorato con un “illuminato, con lui è stato come incontrare il Dalai Lama, e non lo dico per fare una battuta”.

Ermanno Olmi, classe 1931, non ha concepito Torneranno i prati sull’impeto del sentimento “come spesso accade alla genesi di un film”, ma al contrario “su proposta per l’anniversario della Grande Guerra. Ed è allora che ho rievocato le parole di mio papà, che la combatté da soldato. Riflettendoci, ho compreso che il tradimento perpetrato verso i ragazzi morti o feriti in guerra sta nel non aver mai spiegato il perché sono rimasti vittime. E con i defunti e i bambini non si può barare. Troppa vigliaccheria nascosta dietro alla parola neutralità si è accompagnata in 100 anni, è ora di finirla. Camus diceva che se vuoi cambiare il mondo devi cambiare te stesso”.

Class enemy di Rok Bicek è un film potente che racconta un’Europa di giovani egoisti

Class enemy di Rok Bicek – dal 9 ottobre nelle sale per Tucker Film – è una potente riflessione sull’egoismo come specchio di un’epoca. Siamo in una scuola superiore slovena (ma potremmo essere ovunque in Europa) e gli allievi accolgono Robert Zupan (Igor Samobor), il nuovo supplente di tedesco. Mentre l’insegnante di ruolo, in congedo per maternità, presenta il collega, i ragazzi non fanno nulla per celare la propria noia: c’è chi compulsa il telefonino, chi ascolta musica con le cuffie e picchietta il banco con un paio di bacchette, chi non esista a far trapelare una punta di scherno per la formalità della presentazione. «Sono vivaci», si scusa l’insegnante di sempre. «Sono disobbedienti», la corregge laconico Robert.
E impreparati. Alle interrogazioni balbettano e di fronte alla propria insipienza oppongono l’espressione malandrina di chi è abituato a ricevere al massimo un buffetto. Samobor, che veste i panni algidi e controllati di Robert con eccellente impassibilità ed eleganza, inchioda i ragazzi di fronte alla loro candida e esibita ignoranza fino all’umiliazione. Siamo lontani sideralmente dall’umanità sobria ma compassionevole di Diario di un maestro (1972) di Vittorio De Seta o di La classe (2008) di Laurent Cantet. Robert ha un occhio di riguardo solo per Sabina (Daša Cupevski), l’unica a distinguersi dalla mollezza diffusa. Sabina è timida, come lo è nella realtà Dusa, che ne veste i panni: non si è sottoposta al casting, ma è stato Bicek a cercarla tra i corridoi, forte della convinzione che i suoi attori dovessero interpretare loro stessi, pur seguendo il copione. Robert vede nella malinconia e nel talento musicale di Sabina elementi di forza e in un colloquio a due la sprona con durezza a uscire dall’ignavia in cui sguazzano i compagni. Il giorno dopo il professore annuncia alla classe il suicidio di Sabina.East Hall (red)

Salt of the Earth is an amazing journey to the world through the eyes and lens of Sebastiao Salgado, told by himself, his son and Wim Wenders through a series of photographs nothing short of magnificent. Maybe it’s too simplistic to just call them “pictures”; images that Salgado has photographed during his travels across the world, are a portrait of the beauty of the world and a witness of the evil that mankind has done (and continues to do) to the gifts of Creation; Salgado has visited and photographed the endless unexplored territories, forests and enchanting regions that seem lost in the end of the world, but along the way has also witnessed genocide, famine and brutality of all kinds.
