NUORO JAZZ FESTIVAL – NUORO – FROM 22 AUGUST TO SEPTEMBER 1
The long summer of this year in Nuoro Jazz is also one of his usual destinations: as already mentioned, from 22 August to 1 September renews the appointment with the fact Jazz Workshop planned and coordinated by Paolo Fresu for the organization of ‘ Body Music Nuoro. The initiative, one of the most important national teaching jazz, finishes its twenty-fourth edition of confirming, together with the period of development, well-tested formula and diagrams, as always, therefore, eleven days of lectures, practical and the usual series of master classes and workshops, the students waiting in classrooms well equipped the civic school of music “Chironi Antoinette” in the chair once again find musicians with great experience and prestige: Tino Quaff (for the course of saxophone), Robert Cipelli ( piano), Attilio Zanchi (bass and double bass), Thomas Blade (guitar), Ettore Fioravanti (drums), Bruno Tommaso (harmony), Richard Parrucci (flute and Alexander Technique), Corrado Guarino (ensemble music), Giovanni Agostino Frassetto (technique of improvisation), Luke Bragalini (jazz history), Maria Pia De Vito and Elisabetta Antonini (singing) and, of course, Paolo Fresu (trumpet and flugelhorn).
Building on the successful debut last year, returns to the course of jazz harp edited by Marcella Carboni. The introductory course also return to the jazz and Bragalini Luke, for the eighth consecutive time, the jazz photography workshop organized by Pino Ninfa, and the flamenco dance coordinated by Vicini Elena Grifoni, and Ada.
Two different special master makes each edition of the Nuoro Jazz Workshop. One dedicated to the island’s ethnic music (on the morning of August 30, at 11), this time actually relies to a musician as Paul Angels, from tradition and Logudorese Gallura, embarked with his ingenious “prepared Sardinian guitar” a very personal path in the territories of experimentation and improvisation. Protagonists, instead of international master (28 to 30 August) this year is the Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen, name player on the European jazz scene since the early seventies, when he played (1967-1973) in the quartet with Jan Garbarek.
With the inevitable return to the seminar series of concerts every night (beginning at 21:30) will add a touch of showmanship to the study days. Continuing the path of the last editions, the billboard, which not only provides dates Nuoro Bitti, Oliena, Onani, Orosei and Posada, dedicating a special space for projects and groups of musicians who have previously attended courses Nuoro. The rule already applies to the two sets of opening night (Wednesday, 22 August), in the courtyard of the birthplace of Grazia Deledda, as always “center stage” concerts held in Nuoro: reduce by the exhibition that will see them first ten days of Time in Jazz Festival at the scene of Berchidda, opens, as usual, the group formed by the best students of the last edition of the seminar, this time by the name of Six in the City, or Elena Urru (vocals), Elias Lapia (sax) , John the sheet (piano), Simone Albanian (guitar), Sabrina Damiani (bass) and Edward Luparello (drums). Afterwards, focus on the quintet Fulvio Sigurtà , “best new talent” in the poll of the magazine Musica Jazz, a trumpet player who has started to study jazz in 1998 with Paolo Fresu. To join him on stage, James Allsopp on bass clarinet, electric guitar Federico Casagrande, Timothy Giles on drums and bass, Sebastian Dessanay, other musicians passed through the courses of Nuoro.
Cagliari but active time in England, it will still be in the spotlight of the Funtana Piazza Manna Onani the following evening (August 23), first date “in decentralization” of the show, but this time in the role of leader to propose the repertoire from her recent album “Songbook Volume Two”, the head of a staff with Gianluca Corona on guitar, piano Alessandro Di Liberto, Pierpaolo Frailis on drums and the trumpet again Fulvio Sigurtà .
In England (London) lives and works for several years also Thomas Starace, star of the concert on Friday 24 Posada (at the House of the Ladies). The Italo-Australian saxophonist firmly directs two quartets, one English, one Italian, with Michele Di Toro floor, Attilio Zanchi on double bass and Tommy on drums Bradascio: the same training, plus the British vibraphonist Roger Beaujolais as a “guest” with whom he recorded his fifth album, “Simply Marvelous” (a tribute to the music of Michel Petrucciani), and accompanied him in this trip Sardinian land.
Back in Nuoro, the exhibition presents an original production on Saturday 25 in the name of all that unites voice, for the first time, some singers in various capacities related to seminars Nuoro: Marta Raviglia, Alessia Obino, Francesca Corrias and Rossella Faa. To accompany an exceptional rhythm section consisting of three teachers of the winter courses of Nuoro Jazz: pianist Alessandro Di Liberto Cagliari, Alghero the Savior Maltana on bass and drummer Luke Plain Sassari. The singer, composer and improviser, attended by more adventurous music, such as Morpheus of the duo that shares the fate with the Sassari Manuel Attanasio, himself explorer of the expressive possibilities of the voice, vocal improvisation, objects, samplers and multi-effects are the paraphernalia of artistic cooperation, for the occasion will also involve choreographed by Alessandra Walls.
Complete the perfect “chapter” dedicated to former students of the Seminary of Nuoro Jazz Richard Pittau, Sardinian trumpeter (of Guasila), born in 1973, from the large and wide range of experience and collaborations ranging from jazz to the more traditional research, Caribbean salsa music from the Balkans. On 29 August, Bitti, adding his trumpet also loops and samples, Riccardo Pittau shows the head of his Congregation, with Joraku Gianni Gebbia on alto sax, Vincenzo Vasi on electric bass, theremin and vocals, Francesco Cusa on drums and percussions and Paolo Angeli with his original prepared Sardinian guitar.
