NATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH SYNDROME DOWN
“WE ARE DIFFERENT. AMONG U.S. “
Sunday, October 14 National Day will be celebrated in more than two hundred Italian squares, near churches and shopping centers, where children, families and volunteers of organizations distribute informational material about Down syndrome and offer a tablet / e-chocolate (made with cocoa from the fair trade) in exchange for a contribution to support the projects of the 73 associations that come under the CoorDown …
The volunteers of the non-profit Center Down Cagliari, courtesy of the Province of Cagliari, organized a booth at the Park of Monte Claro via Cadello, where it will be possible to leave a contribution and receive information on the syndrome.
The Center thanks to an experience of thirty years celebrated in May 2012, provides always a tireless support from the time of prenatal diagnosis following the unborn and their families throughout the life span.
The initiative is aimed at the national level this year, the right to work through eight stories.
Eight stories of young men and women struggling with the world of work. Eight video stories to follow and share on coordown.it and on facebook to find that the integration lavorativadelle people with Down syndrome is not only possible but in many cases it is already a reality.
At a time of great economic and social tensions the CoorDown has chosen to dedicate the 2012 edition of the National Day on the theme of work, to raise with the necessity for people with Down syndrome have the same rights and the same opportunities than anyone else, according to their skills, experience and training.
That’s why the slogan of this year’s play – from the voice of young players – “We are different. Among us. “
It is a way to emphasize the importance of a culture of diversity and the uniqueness of each person, against the prejudices that still accompany disability. Because “being different is normal.”
People with Down syndrome are not all the same. It is essential to know and put them to the test. There are people who are unable to work.
Many others, however, have great potential and are able to exercise a profession with commitment, perseverance and contentment. But need more support from the institutions, need more communication between local authorities and need more courage and confidence by companies, public and private, to invest in these guys.
Why do a job, not only a right, it is the most important tool to secure their independent living, full integration into society and a decent future.
