Nella Gendarmenmarkt, una delle piazze più belle della città con ben due cattedrali e il monumento di Schiller, si tiene il mercato Weihnachtzauber (Magia del Natale). Un’offerta di prodotti internazionali che caratterizzano i quasi 120 stand: caledoiscopi, vestiti per le bambole fatti su misura, carte da regalo, biglietti augurali, maglieria in alpaca o cachemire, calendari dell’Avvento, Baumkuchen, dolci della tradizione tedesca natalizia, patate al cartoccio, salcicce arrostite, mandorle caramellate, marzapane e vin brulè. Tra le specialità internazionali: crepes, irish coffee e fingerfood asiatico.

E’ il più grande Mercatino di Natale di Berlino. Si svolge nello scenario della città vecchia, nel quartiere Spandau (Altstadt Spandau) di Berlino, dove oltre 250 chalet di legno, che diventano anche 400 nei fine settimana, aspettano i visitatori con i loro prodotti.
Nello stesso luogo c’è anche un Mercatino di Natale dedicato ai bambini, davvero unico nel suo genere nella capitale tedesca. Tra le iniziative extra, si può trovare un suggestivo Presepe con animali vivi nella Reformationsplatz, concerti e cori. Imperdibile è la visita ai Giardini di Natale di St. Nikolai, il Santo del Natale nell’area mitteleuropea, e al mercatino storico di arti e mestieri di Reformationsplatz, in cui ogni mercoledì ha luogo una processione totalmente in stile medievale.

Il programma offre un clima di festa. Particolarmente popolari sono il Venerdì “Natale incontra Rock and Roll “, i concerti e le performance del Zollkapelle Berlino durante i fine settimana . Su due dei sabati prima di Natale , karaoke, il mercoledì è il giorno della famiglia con la visita di Babbo Natale, ma anche il resto della settimana , per i ragazzi ci sono il presepe con animali veri e il fiabesco giardino di Natale.

 

Mercatino di Natale di Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche
Nel quartiere Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf si svolge un altro dei più popolari Mercatini di Berlino, caratterizzato da oltre 170 bancarelle disposte tutt’intorno ad un maestoso albero di Natale illuminato, proprio di fronte alla chiesa.

Intorno alla Gedachtniskirche si colloca il Weihnachtsmarkt City, un mercatino per i giovani, dove regna lo spirito dell’internazionalizzazione e della contemporaneità. Il mercato richiama milioni di visitatori anche grazie alla vicinanza delle rovine storiche causate dalla guerra.

Situato sulla Breitscheidplatz addobbata a festa, tra Kurfürstendamm e Zoologischer Garten, il mercatino,composto da circa140 casette, offre artigianato fatti a mano, decorazioni natalizie, abbigliamento invernale, giocattoli per bambini e accessori realizzati con cura.
Alcuni stand offrono bratwurst Turingia, cialde dolci, frutta candita e noci – l’intera gamma di prelibatezze di stagione . Vin brulè e zabaione fatto in casa sono serviti nel calore delle serre e dei padiglioni.
Le piccole giostre aggiungono un fascino nostalgico al mercato.

Mercatino di Natale  al Palazzo di Charlottenburg
Uno dei Mercatini di Natale più importanti di Berlino si trova di fronte al Palazzo barocco di Charlottenburg. Si tratta di un Mercatino molto grande, con circa 250 stand, e molto romantico, grazie alla suggestiva cornice del castello illuminato. Dagli stand arrivano inebrianti profumi di specialità berlinesi e tedesche e vengono proposti oggetti artigianali  delle più antiche arti e mestieri cittadine. Oltre che dalla musica d’accompagnamento, le passeggiate tra gli stand possono essere completate da visite speciali nel bellissimo palazzo.
La Winter Forest ( foresta invernale ) davanti al piccolo aranceto, offre attrazioni magiche per i bambini, tra cui una giostra nostalgica, un’ altalena per aria e una piccola ferrovia. Nella tenda delle fiaba grazie a laboratori organizzati dal Berlin City Museum Foundation, i più piccoli possono cimentarsi in arti e mestieri.

Il Groß Berliner Weihnachtsmarkt si svolge nella Ost Berlino, la parte orientale della città. Questo Mercatino è dedicato ai prodotti ecologici e alle organizzazioni di protezione dell’ambiente. Mercatino di Natale di Santa Lucia
Questo Mercatino,considerato uno dei belli di Berlino, è dedicato a Santa Lucia e al Natale scandinavo. La tradizione natalizia nord europea è infatti più legata a figure come Santa Klaus e Santa Lucia, piuttosto che al più “mediterraneo” Gesù Bambino. Dal momento che queste usanze sono molto sentite anche in Germania, Berlino le ricorda con un Mercatino ad hoc, che si svolge presso il Centro Culturale di Kulturbrauerei, ospitato nella ex fabbrica di birra Schultheiss,nella birreria Prenzlauer Berg, nel quartiere di Pankow. In questo Mercatino di Natale tutto rimanda alla cultura e alla tradizione dei paesi nordici, dalle decorazioni ai prodotti artigianali e gastronomici proposti. Al Museo Ebraico di Berlino si svolge un Mercatino tradizionale in occasione della Chanukkah, la Festa delle Luci, una delle ricorrenze ebraiche più sentite e suggestive. Si possono trovare in genere specialità da tutto il mondo, ma soprattutto specialità ebraiche, tra cui il dolce tipico della festività, lo sufganiot, e il vin brulé kosher. Per i bambini vengono organizzati spettacoli di marionette e per gli adulti concerti musicali.

Il Dahlem è un museo agricolo e del cibo open-air museo con un focus sull’ecologia . Il maniero è molto antico e qui è possibile capire il cammino dei prodotti alimentari dal campo alla tavola e offre lo scenario ideale per il mercatino di Natale.
Arti e mestieri sono il focus su ciascuno dei quattro fine settimana dell’Avvento. Soffiatori di vetro, fabbri, fioristi, artigiani del cuoio, ceramisti, modiste, tessitori, creatori di bambole e accessori per strumenti musicali offrono i loro prodotti artigianali in un ambito familiare.
I workshop includono attività di tornitura, di filatura e tessitura. I visitatori possono riscaldarsi nella casa padronale del 1560 o cenare con cosce di oca, vin brulè o cialde sotto la tettoia. I bambini nel frattempo possono fare decorazioni natalizie o candele di cera d’api . Gite in carrozza e pony completano l’atmosfera di festa insieme al quartetto d’ ottoni.

Sul palco di alternano cori, solisti e bande di ottoni, mentre l’atmosfera viene resa ancor più natalizia dalle cialde fresche, le mandorle tostate e il cioccolato caldo con cannella. I bambini saranno anche particolarmente soddisfatto per la zoo e la visita di Babbo Natale.

Il tradizionale eco-mercato si svolge ogni giovedi su Kollwitzplatz; nelle domeniche di Avvento, una versione festosa si impone alle bancarelle, che offrono giocattoli, prodotti tessili, artigianato e gastronomia. I prodotti offerti qui sono esclusivamente realizzati secondo standard ecologici.
Circa 50 i concessionari della regione offrono una vasta gamma di oggetti da sciarpe di lana di pecora ecologica a oli da massaggio biologici. Salati e crêpes dolci, vini rossi e vin dal Tannenwald, cialde di farro e dals indiani prevedono al ristoro, mentre i bambini possono scorazzare nel parco giochi a Kollwitzplatz o godersi le passeggiate con i pony.

Questo tradizionale mercatino di Natale in Richardplatz in Neukölln – Rixdorf brilla con la luce romantica di lampade a gas il secondo fine settimana dell’ Avvento. Al centro di Richardplatz è una fucina storica , parte della elencato Böhmisches Dorf . Potete guardare sopra la spalla del fabbro maestro al lavoro e , se volete, potete portare a casa un po’ di buona fortuna sotto forma di un ferro di cavallo.
Più di 100 associazioni di beneficenza, organizzazioni e associazioni sono presenti con prodotti artigianali in legno, metallo, ceramica o cera. Altre caratteristiche del mercatino sono vin brulè da ricette di famiglia, biglietti di auguri self-made , giocattoli originali e molto di più .

Questo palazzo rinascimentale costruito dal principe elettore Gioacchino II di Prussia nel mezzo del Grunewald è il più antico palazzo sopravvissuto a Berlino. Ogni fine settimana dell’Avvento, diventa lo scenario da favola per il tradizionale mercatino di Natale.
Artigiani e artisti locali offrono i loro prodotti originali nel cortile del palazzo romantico sulle rive del Grunewaldsee, mentre i personaggi fiabeschi come Madre Holle, Hansel e Gretel o la matrigna di Cenerentola si mescolano con i visitatori.

Il quartiere intorno Leopoldplatz a Berlino-Wedding raccoglie la terza Domenica di Avvento ogni anno di fronte al vecchio Nazarethkirche illuminato a festa. Dal 1960, bancarelle di Natale e decorazioni luminose aggiungono un clima di festa per celebrare l’inizio dell’inverno. Accompagnano il mercatino la musica e l’ intrattenimento sul palcoscenico all’aperto e nella chiesa stessa. Piccolo Mercatino Nostaligico con oggetti aritistici e di aritgianato con programma di musiche natalizie

 

Descrivere Berlino in poche righe è davvero difficile, quasi impossibile, data la sua storia secolare e la straordinaria ricchezza dei musei e monumenti che la caratterizzano.
Si potrebbe partire però da quello che è considerato in tutto il mondo un suo simbolo: la Porta di Brandeburgo (Brandenburger Tor). Fu costruita tra il 1778 e il 1791, sormontata da una quadriga  raffigurante la Dea della Vittoria. E’ dunque un simbolo di forza e vigore, finalizzato ad esaltare i caratteri tipici della città e della nazione.
Non lontano dalla Porta di Brandeburgo si trova il Reichstag, ovvero la sede del Parlamento Tedesco. Fu inaugurato nel 1894, ma poi bruciato dai nazisti nel 1933. In quell’occasione andò distrutta anche la celebre cupola in vetro e acciaio, che era stato un vanto per la città e per l’architettura tedesca del tempo. Tra 1961 e 1964 l’edificio fu ricostruito e nel 1992 l’architetto inglese Sir Norman Foster creò una nuova e ancora più spettacolare cupola di vetro, tuttora una delle attrazioni principali per i turisti. Nel 1999 il palazzo ha assunto nuovamente e in modo ufficiale il ruolo di Parlamento della Germania riunita, col nome di Bundestag.

Dalla Porta di Brandeburgo prende avvio una delle arterie principali di Berlino, viale Unter den Linden. Su questa grande via si trovano alcuni dei principali edifici storici cittadini: la Humbold-Universität, la più antica e celebre delle tre università di Berlino, sorta nel 1810, il palazzo della Deutsche Staatsoper (ovvero l’Opera di Stato), costruito tra 1741 e 1743 e situato proprio di fronte all’università, la Neue Wache, memoriale di guerra costruita da Karl Friedrich Schinkel tra 1816 e 1818 e uno degli edifici neoclassici più importanti di Berlino.
Al centro della Città Vecchia troviamo Potsdamer Platz. La guerra e la divisione di Berlino avevano cancellato ogni traccia dell’antica architettura di questa piazza, ricostruita però dopo la riunificazione con  il prezioso contributo di molti famosi architetti da tutto il mondo (tra cui anche l’italiano Renzo Piano). Si tratta di un luogo davvero simbolico, poichè situato durante la guerra fredda proprio al confine tra Berlino ovest ed est. Ancora oggi qui si trova un segno della passata divisione, il Checkpoint Charlie, uno dei pochi passaggi tra la parte est e ovest della città ai tempi del muro. Al centro della strada c’è un grande cartello su cui sono ritratti un giovane soldato russo da un lato e un giovane soldato americano dall’altro, a simboleggiare come qui essi stazionassero fronte a fronte negli anni della guerra.
Tra i simboli del conflitto e della traumatica divisione cittadina e nazionale, non vanno dimenticati poi i frammenti di muro che si trovano ancora per Berlino e che testimoniano con intensa e toccante eloquenza le sofferenze di quegi anni.
Un’altra importante piazza berlinese è Alexanderplatz, perfetto connubio fra tradizione e modernità. Da una parte, infatti, si trovano la torre della TV e il Weltzeituhr, un orologio che indica l’ora in tutte le parti del mondo, dall’altra si erge il Municipio cittadino.

Il Palazzo del Municipio venne costruito fra 1861 e 1869 in stile neoclassico e in mattoni rossi, motivo per cui è chiamato dai berlinesi Rotes Rathaus (municipio rosso). Questa scelta architettonica voleva segnare una legame con la tradizione rinascimentale, in particolare di certe città italiane come Ferrara e Bologna, dove in effetti abbonda l’uso del cotto negli edifici storici.
Gendarmenmarkt è una delle piazze cittadine più belle. A sinistra si trova il Deutscher Dom (il duomo tedesco) e a destra il Französischer Dom (il duomo francese), molto simili nella struttura. In particolare, il Französischer Dom fu costruito tra 1701 e 1705 per gli ugonotti, comunità religiosa sfuggita ai massacri anti-protestanti che avvenivano in Francia tra XVII e XVIII secolo. Gli ugonotti furono accolti dal re della Prussia in territorio tedesco, contribuendo in modo significativo alla crescita culturale di Berlino. Al centro dei due edifici religiosi in Gendarmenmarkt sorge l’ex teatro nazionale, adibito oggi a sala concerti.

Tra gli edifici religiosi principali c’è naturalmente il Duomo di Berlino, chiesa protestante costruita dal 1747 al 1750, inizialmente nata come chiesa e mausoleo della famiglia degli Hohenzollern. La struttura odierna è del 1905, anche se dopo le distruzioni della guerra esso fu nuovamente ricostruito e, in parte, semplificato.
Rimanendo nel centro cittadino, in particolare nel quartiere Mitte, si incontrano altre bellezze imperdibili. Per chi ama i musei, è d’obbligo la tappa all’Isola dei Musei, che ne racchiude i principali musei della città. Chi invece volesse apprezzare la parte più romantica di Berlino, non può perdere il Castello di Charlottenburg ed il meraviglioso parco che lo circonda, il Tiergarten. Quest’ultimo è lo spazio verde più ampio in città, tra i  luoghi preferiti dei Berlinesi per le passeggiate del fine settimana.

Cucina di Berlino

La cucina tedesca è molto calorica, fatta di piatti abbondanti e sostanziosi fin dalla colazione.
La carne è il pezzo forte, a partire dai wurstel, acquistabili anche nei chioschi lungo le strade, che sono spesso a base di maiale, come l’Eisbein. Quest’ultimo di solito viene cucinato in salamoia o viene bollito e si accompagna con crauti e salsicce o con purè di piselli e polpette.
Tra le specialità di Berlino troviamo la Boulette, una sorta di polpetta fritta con contorno di insalata di patate, che viene spesso accompagnata alla Berliner Weisse, un tipico tipo di birra.

From the Brandenburg Gate starts one of the main streets of Berlin, Unter den Linden.
