Dall’11 al 14 aprile Memoria del mare verrà presentato in quattro luoghi di Sardegna, nell’ambito speciale di quattro progetti – Lìberos, Progetto Barega, Parco Archeologico Seleni, Casa Museo A. Gramsci – a cui ci sentiamo affini per visione e approccio, e ai quali ci è piaciuto fare omaggio di questo nostro lavoro. Riteniamo infatti che questi progetti e questi spazi rappresentino un modo di fare cultura – ed economia, in più di un caso – assolutamente compatibili e sostenibili rispetto alle esigenze e le possibilità della nostra isola, oltre ad essere dei veri e propri presidi di memoria, buone pratiche e modernità. Da qui, visto il momento di crisi diffuso e oggettivo, in specie per i progetti culturali (fondazioni, associazioni etc) e nella convinzione che solo attraverso il mutuo sostegno e lo scambio diffuso si possa provare ad invertire una rotta dagli esiti altrimenti tragici, abbiamo deciso di omaggiare queste iniziative “resistenti”. Lo facciamo tenendo ben presenti i sottintesi, diremmo antropologici, dell’idea di dono che mettiamo in gioco, e con la consapevolezza che questo scambio, per noi, ha anche il significato della lotta alla crisi dello spettacolo, attraverso nuove forme di collaborazione e il ripensamento dei sistemi di promozione. L’altro elemento che ci piace sottolineare è la modularità del progetto Memoria del mare, a partire da una base “in duo”, per arricchirsi di contenuti e ospiti, sino ad approdare ad una terza fase più esplorativa, di ricerca di materiali narrativi e sonori tradizionali legati alla cultura del mare. In conclusione e sintesi, vorremo soffermarci sul senso politico del progetto: mettere i linguaggi creativi a disposizione del dibattito contemporaneo isolano ha per noi questo significato, così come lo ha individuare alcuni ambiti e riconoscergli un particolare valore simbolico: il nostro patrimonio culturale (Casa Museo A. Gramsci), il nostro patrimonio archeologico (Il parco archeologico di Seleni,) la storia dei nostri saperi tradizionali e la loro compatibilità attuale (B.A.R.E.G.A.), il modo al tempo antico e contemporaneo di Lìberos di fare rete tra i vari protagonisti della filiera libraria.

Ho scritto una breve narrazione e ho scelto alcuni brani di lettura, anche molto diversi tra loro: Omero, Dante, Giuseppe Dessì, Sergio Atzeni, Aquilino Cannas.. Arrogalla ha composto diverse musiche – tra dub, eletronica e ambient – e ne ha arrangiato delle altre. Insieme ci siamo domandati se fosse possibile dire qualcosa sulla Sardegna di oggi, su di noi oggi, attraverso un racconto che parlasse dei rapporti storicamente intercorsi tra la nostra isola e il mare, tra i sardi e il mare. Abbiamo deciso che valesse comunque la pena porsi una domanda così complessa, e che avesse senso avventurarsi in un viaggio del genere solo se armati di strumenti di navigazione sofisticati, i migliori a nostra disposizione: come sestante la grande letteratura, come portolano l’infinita gamma delle possibilità del dub, la replica del suono delle onde che diventa musica. Nasce così Memoria del mare, che poi è il proseguimento di un percorso avviato con il reading “Abissi e Approdi”, e che avrà alla fine una terza tappa conclusiva dal sapore più antropologico, di cui vi parleremo più avanti. Memoria del mare è dunque un viaggio nell’immaginario di un’isola e dei suoi isolani, un percorso nella contraddittorietà dei rapporti tra una terra e il suo mare, un giro al largo delle possibilità di condividere, con musica e parole, un’idea di comunità che non ha paura di guardarsi né alle spalle, né davanti. Ora.

Prosegue la ricerca avviata dal progetto narrativo-musicale dell’inedito duo Casti/Arrogalla intitolato Abissi e Approdi, progetto incentrato sul viaggio per mare. Questa nuova tappa, Memoria del mare, fa rotta senza indugi verso il Mediterraneo, e verso la nostra isola nello specifico. È proprio dalla complessità di rapporto e dei rapporti tra la Sardegna, i sardi e il mare che prende avvio questo nuovo viaggio, che mantiene come strumenti di navigazione, come sestante e portolano, verrebbe da dire, da una parte la grande letteratura e la sua eccezionale capacità di raccontare e trasformare il mondo, e dall’altra le sonorità liquide e suggestive della musica dub e dei suoi sconfinamenti verso la dub poetry. Da Omero e Dante fino a Giuseppe Dessì e Sergio Atzeni, passando per Cervantes, Balzac, Grazia Deledda, Antonio Gramsci, Aquilino Cannas, Emilio Lussu, Michela Murgia e tanti altri, Memoria del mare si propone come percorso di riflessione e ragionamento sulla nostra singolare condizione di isolani – storicamente diffidenti nei confronti del mare eppure consapevoli di come il nostro passato e il nostro futuro siano legati in maniera inestricabile a questo elemento – e insieme come opportunità di confronto su temi di straordinaria importanza, per i sardi e per tutti: la memoria storica, la questione migrante, le appartenenze culturali, il ruolo della letteratura nella società. Questo è “Memoria del mare”. Sia che si pensi, come sosteneva Izzo, che il mare renda semplice tutto, persino l’idea della felicità, oppure lo si tema e lo si riconosca specchio delle nostre inquietudini più profonde, come scriveva Conrad, rimane il fatto che il genere umano non ha ancora trovato una metafora migliore di quella del viaggio per mare, per provare a rendere la complessità, il mistero e la bellezza della vita. E a noi, non rimane altro che augurarvi buona navigazione, e buon ascolto.

Giacomo Casti
È nato, vive e lavora in Sardegna. Laureato in Lettere con indirizzo antropologico, si occupa di letteratura, teatro (regista e autore, con Antas Teatro e Prospettive Lateatrali), cinema (attore, film con G. Cabiddu, E. Pitzianti, T. Mannoni) e musica. Da anni tiene laboratori di scrittura per ragazzi e adulti. E’ stato membro del direttivo della Fondazione Giuseppe Dessì; è socio fondatore e uno dei direttori artistici dell’Associazione Chourmo, che da dieci anni organizza a Cagliari il Marina Cafè Noir-Festival di letterature applicate. Da molti anni si occupa della realizzazione di reading musicali su testi propri e di vari autori (G. Dessì, S. Atzeni, B. Larsson, C. Pavese, L. Pintor, F. Abate).

Arrogalla
Arrogalla è un produttore dub e compositore di Quartu Sant’Elena (CA). Produce suoni e ritmi ispirati alla antica (e contemporanea) tradizione della Sardegna arricchita da impressioni paesaggistiche, suggestioni ambientali, frequenze lo-fi con un approccio dub. Suona anche con Bentesoi, Baska e Malasorti. Dal 2003 ad oggi ha prodotto diversi album, ep, singoli, remix, musiche per il teatro, per documentari e per la danza. E’ il direttore artistico della label/associazione Mime. Ha lavorato, cooperato e suonato con molti artisti nazionali ed internazionali. Ha suonato in diversi festival e club in Sardegna, Italia, Germania, Spagna, Catalogna, Lituania, Norvegia, Polonia, Belgio, Svizzera e Francia realizzando diversi mini-tour europei.

11 to 14 April Memory of the sea will be presented in four places of Sardinia, within four special projects – LIBEROS, Project Barega, Seleni Archaeological Park, Casa Museo A. Gramsci – to which we are related to vision and approach, and to whom we liked to do this tribute to our work. We believe that these projects and these spaces represent a way of making culture – and the economy, in more than one case – absolutely compatible and sustainable to meet the needs and possibilities of our island, as well as being the true principals of memory, good practices and modernity. From here, since the moment of crisis and widespread objective, especially for cultural projects (foundations, associations, etc.) and in the belief that only through mutual support and exchange spread can try to reverse a route from the otherwise tragic outcomes, we decided to pay homage to these initiatives “resistant.” We do this by keeping in mind the implications, we would say anthropological idea of ​​gift that we put into play, and with the knowledge that this exchange, for us, it also has the meaning of the fight against the crisis of the show, through new forms of collaboration and rethinking of promotion systems. The other element that we like to emphasize is the modularity of the project Memory of the sea, starting from a base “in a duet,” to get rich in content and guests, until landing a third phase more exploratory research of narrative materials and sound related to the traditional culture of the sea. In conclusion and summary, we would like to dwell on the political sense of the project: to put creative languages ​​available to the contemporary debate isolate has for us this meaning, as it has identified some areas and to attribute a particular symbolic value our cultural heritage (Museum House A. Gramsci), our archaeological heritage (The archaeological park of Seleni,) the story of our traditional knowledge and their current compatibility (Barega), the way to the time of ancient and contemporary LIBEROS networking among the various actors in the supply chain library.

I wrote a short story and I chose some reading passages, also very different from each other: Homer, Dante, Giuseppe Dessi, Sergio Atzeni, Aquilino Cannas .. Arrogalla has composed several music – including dub, ambient electronica – and has arranged the others. Together we wondered if it was possible to say something about Sardinia today on us today, through a story that spoke of the relationship historically occurred between our island and the sea, between the Sardinians and the sea. We decided it was worth still worth asking such a complex question, and that made sense to venture into such a trip only if armed with sophisticated navigation tools, the best at our disposal: sextant as great literature, pilot book as the infinite range the possibilities of dub, the replication of the sound of the waves becomes music. The result is Memory of the sea, then that is the continuation of a process that began with the reading “Abyss and Landings” and that will eventually have a third final stage flavor more anthropological, which we’ll discuss later. Memory of the sea is thus a journey into an island and its islanders, a path in the contradictory nature of the relationship between the earth and the sea, a turn off the ability to share, with music and words, an idea community that is not afraid to look or behind, or in front. Continues the research initiated by the project narrative and musical duo of starvation Casti / Arrogalla entitled Abyss and Landings, the project focused on the sea voyage. This new stage, Memory of the sea, making his way without delay to the Mediterranean, and from our island specifically. From Homer and Dante to Joseph Dessi and Sergio Atzeni, through Cervantes, Balzac, Grazia Deledda, Antonio Gramsci, Aquilino Cannas, Emily Lussier, Michela Murgia and many others, Memory of the sea, offers a process of reflection and reasoning on our singular condition of islanders – historically wary of the sea and yet aware of how our past and our future are tied inextricably to this element – and together as an opportunity to discuss matters of great importance, for the Sardinians and for all: historical memory, the question migrant, cultural affiliations, the role of literature in society. This is “Memory of the sea.” Whether you think, as claimed by Izzo, that the sea makes everything simple, even the idea of ​​happiness, or you issue and he is recognized mirror of our deepest anxieties, as Conrad wrote, the fact remains that the human race has yet to find a better metaphor than that of the sea voyage, to try to make the complexity, the mystery and beauty of life. And to us, there is nothing left to wish you good navigation, and good listening.

He was born, lives and works in Sardinia. He graduated in Arts with specialization anthropological, deals with literature, theater (director and author, with Antas Theatre and Perspectives Lateatrali), cinema (actor, film Cabiddu G., E. Pitzianti, T. Mannoni) and music. For years has been writing workshops for children and adults. It ‘been a member of the board of the Foundation Giuseppe Dessi, is a founding member and one of the artistic directors of the Association Chourmo, who for ten years has been organizing in Cagliari Marina Café Noir Festival-applied literatures. For many years, deals with the creation of musical reading of their texts and various authors (G. Dessi, S. Atzeni, B. Larsson, C. Pavese, L. Pintor, F. Abate).

Arrogalla
Arrogalla is a dub producer and composer of St. Helens (CA). Produces sounds and rhythms inspired by the ancient (and modern) tradition of Sardinia enriched with impressions landscape, environmental suggestions, frequency lo-fi approach with a dub. He also plays with Bentesoi, Baska and Malasorti. Since 2003 he has produced several albums, ep, singles, remixes, music for the theater, documentaries and dance. It ‘s the artistic director of the label / Mime association. He worked, collaborated and performed with many national and international artists. He has played in several festivals and clubs in Sardinia, Italy, Germany, Spain, Catalonia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland and France making several mini-tour of Europe.
