MADEIRA LIVE – VINVOGLIO WINE JAZZ CLUB – CAGLIARI – FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 21
The project Madeira comes from the passion of the group for the Brazilian and Portuguese music, genres share, as well as historical and cultural backgrounds, especially the Portuguese, who despite being the same in both Portugal and Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola and Guinea Bissau has still differences in pronunciation and some grammatical forms.
Stefania Secci, the singer, has long studied the traditional music of Eastern European countries, Argentine tango and Portuguese popular music, especially the Fado.
Fado is a genre not known here, but it is failing to gain more and more attention among the Italian public.
One might dwell much on Fado, its origins and its protagonists, but for now I only say that the undisputed representative of Fado in Lisbon (for instance the most popular, which develops in port areas and tells of saudade, d ‘love, departures and sailors, and the same Fado) is Amalia Rodriguez, while the largest Portuguese singer and spokesperson for the Fado of Coimbra (the extraction educated, sung mostly by university students, and wearing robes political and social struggle) is Zeca Afonso, who throughout his life, however, was influenced by African music, particularly Angola.
We assume that you already know Brazilian music, but if not, go to discover and “thumbing through” on youtube the music of Amalia and Zeca Afonso and Morna of Cape Verde, Cesaria Evora.
