“Lo Zoo di vetro” di Tennessee Williams è considerato uno dei più famosi classici della letteratura americana e come ogni classico, intramontabile. La storia è quella di una piccola famiglia di Saint Louis, quella dei Wingfield, composta da Amanda, la madre e i suoi figli, Tom e Laura. Il padre ha abbandonato tutti e se n’è andato. Ogni personaggio ha assorbito questa assenza e ne porta un tratto. Amanda, divenuta mostruosamente possessiva, si ritrova sola con due figli difficili da “gestire”: Tom, poeta impiegato in un magazzino, io narrante dell’intera vicenda, torna a casa dopo anni di vagabondaggi, insofferente alle prediche ossessive della madre vorrebbe fuggire da questa situazione, ma si sente imprigionato tra un profondo desiderio di libertà e l’amore per la sorella e Laura, straordinario personaggio, resa claudicante da una malattia che ne caratterizza anche l’animo fragile e che la chiude nel suo mondo immaginario fatto di animaletti di cristallo, lo zoo di vetro per l’appunto. Quando alla fine Jim, un amico del fratello, di cui Laura era innamorata fin dal liceo, viene a far visita alla famiglia, lei tenta di vincere con ogni forza la sua ritrosìa, si appoggerà a questo bel giovane, al sogno di diventarne la fidanzata e lo ZOO DI VETRO crollerà.
Una storia così nitida e appassionante necessita solo di attori “di vetro”, questa è l’unica chiave che il regista Jurij Ferrini, si sente di inserire nel pentagramma di questo spartito composto da una mano sensibile e sapiente come quella di Williams. Gli attori “di vetro” sono attori capaci di far vibrare i loro corpi di emozioni sottili e di renderle visibili in modo inequivocabile al pubblico, pur mantenendo la complessità dell’animo umano.

“The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams is considered one of the greatest classics of American literature and like any classic, timeless. The story of a small family of St. Louis, that of Wingfield, consisting of Amanda, the mother and her children, Tom and Laura. The father has abandoned all gone. Each character has absorbed this absence and brings a sudden.
