The Festival of Launeddas, which takes place every year on August 7 in Villaputzu, is the most representative and impressive event in the world closely linked to the old instrument. The event is marked by a solemn religious procession in engaging and involving the launeddas players from other schools on the island and numerous Folk groups that parade with rich and various traditional costumes representing different countries of origin. This event is unique because, under the banner of friendship and hospitality typical of Villaputzu, open to all players (professionals and amateurs, apprentices, etc.) of this ancient instrument come from any school.
At night, visitors and citizens of Villaputzu will attend a big music concert where ethnic Launeddas than to assume the role of main actor are compared with other music of the Mediterranean and Europe.
The Festival of Launeddas is the event that is in addition to the wide range of summer events and festivals that Villaputzu offers its visitors and citizens, during which you will discover the culture, traditions and folklore of the whole sarrabese.
