La Settimana Santa
Le grandi processioni della Settimana Santa, particolarmente nelle vecchie Città regie della Sardegna, sono uno dei segni più importanti che la cultura spagnola ha lasciato nella nostra Isola dopo quattro secoli di dominazione.
Iglesias non fa eccezione e non solo per questo: è spagnolo il suo nome che vuoi dire appunto chiese (la traduzione del medioevale Villa di Chiesa), sono gotico – aragonesi le volte delle sue chiese principali, è spagnola la sua tradizione più importante: La Settimana Santa.
Il canovaccio delle “tante Settimane Sante iberiche” è anche da noi rispettato. Si badi non solo l’esteriorità e la forma dell’impianto tradizionale, che pure viene rispettato nei più intimi e non visibili dettagli, quanto lo spirito, la religiosità e la partecipazione che coinvolge la Città che si stringe attorno al suo più antico sodalizio: l’Arciconfraternita del Santo Monte.
L’impianto attuale dei tradizionali riti della Settimana Santa è degli ultimi decenni del Seicento ma sicuramente già dapprima processioni penitenziali in Quaresima e Settimana Santa dovevano essere la regola, la presenza dei Disciplinanti in Città nei secoli precedenti né da prova sicura.
Il concorso popolare fu dall’inizio un fatto essenziale e risolutivo: le tre confraternite del popolo, S. Chiara, S. Cristo e S. Lucia, rappresentavano quest’ultimo in processione e così via anche gli altri sodalizi confraternali man mano che si istituivano. Il concorso del popolo è anche sottolineato dalla presenza, nelle processioni del Giovedì e Venerdì Santo, di moltissimi bambini che vestono l’abito da baballottis.
Dalla Domenica delle Palme, lglesias entra in un clima particolare quasi che il tempo andasse a ritroso; i nostri tempi hanno cancellato molte delle nostre radici storiche e tradizionali ma non la Settimana Santa, essa si “sente” nelle strade e nei vicoli della Città vecchia: c’è attesa per le processioni, specialmente per quella del Venerdì sera, c’è specialmente un sentimento collettivo di pietà e mestizia per la Passione di Gesù che dopo duemila anni suscita commozione come se si ripetesse per davvero.
Riviviamo, descrivendole qui di seguito, le varie manifestazioni che l’Arciconfraternita del Santo Monte ci propone durante la Settimana Santa.

Holy Week
Large processions of Holy Week, particularly in the old royal city of Sardinia, are one of the most important signs that the Spanish culture has left in our Island after four centuries of domination.
Iglesias is no exception , and not just for this: Spanish is the name you want to say exactly churches ( the translation of the medieval Church of Villa ) , are Gothic – Aragon times of its main churches, Spanish is the most important tradition : The Holy Week.
The plot of ” many Iberian Holy Weeks ” is also respected by us . Mind you not only the outward form and the traditional system , which is well respected in the most intimate details are not visible , as the spirit , religiosity and participation involving the City that tightens around his oldest association : the Confraternity of the Holy Mount .
The current layout of the traditional rites of Holy Week is the last decades of the seventeenth century but surely already first penitential processions during Lent and Holy Week had to be the rule, in the presence of the Disciplinanti City in previous centuries nor safe test .
The competition was popular from the start is essential and decisive : the three brotherhoods of the people, St. Clare, St. Lucia and St. Christ , the latter represented in the procession and so on also other associations confraternities as they instituted . The participation of the people is also underlined by the presence , in the processions of Holy Thursday and Friday , with many children who wear the dress Baballottis .
From Palm Sunday, Iglesias enters a particular climate almost as if time went backwards ; our time have erased many of our historical roots and traditional but not the Holy Week, it “feels” in the streets and alleys of the Old Town: no waiting for processions , especially for that Friday night , there especially a collective feeling of pity and sorrow for the Passion of Jesus two thousand years later that arouses emotion as if repeated for real.
