Sono sempre più italiani che,non riuscendo a trovare un lavoro nel Bel Paese, cercano fortuna nella terra dei canguri,come già capitava ai loro genitori negli anni 50.

Secondo il Rapporto Italiani in Australia 2013, che analizza “l’immigrazione giovanile italiana in l’Australia” fino al 30 settembre dello scorso anno, 18.610 concittadini erano presenti con un visto di residenza temporaneo (visti vacanza-lavoro, studente e lavoro specializzato “457”), con un incremento del 116% negli ultimi 24 mesi e del 36% rispetto al 30 settembre 2012. Con 15.973 visti vacanza-lavoro concessi a cittadini italiani – tra i 18 e 30 anni – e un aumento del 66,4%, il 2012-13 conferma un trend di crescita che ha visto arrivare in Australia, negli ultimi tre anni, più di 32mila giovani italiani. Il Bel Paese risulta inoltre essere la prima nazione europea per numero totale di visti studente rilasciati in loco (1.785 visti) precedendo Regno Unito (1.449), Spagna (1.086) e Francia e, nella categoria di visto Working Holiday, la seconda nazione a livello di crescita percentuale preceduta solo da Cipro. E tanti nostri connazionali arrivano tra Sidney e Canberra con un visto temporaneo che, in molti casi, ambisce a diventare permanente.

I dati che emergono dallo studio superano quelli dello storico fenomeno degli anni ‘50, con più di 22mila nuove presenze suddivise in residenti temporanei (visti vacanza-lavoro, studente e lavoro specializzato “457”), residenti permanenti e nuove cittadinanze. Nel 2012-13 l’Italia risulta essere, nella categoria di visto Working Holiday, la seconda nazione a livello di crescita percentuale preceduta solo da Cipro e con più 88,6% rispetto all’anno precendente, siamo il Paese che ha maggiormente incrementato l’utilizzo di questa visa. Con 3.302 visti studente concessi a cittadini italiani e un aumento del 30% rispetto all’anno precedente, il 2012-13 conferma un trend di crescita che ha visto arrivare in Australia, negli ultimi sei anni, più di 12mila italiani con lo status di studente. Inoltre, l’Italia risulta l’undicesima nazione fornitrice di professionalità e nuovi dipendenti ad aziende australiane (+24,9%) e in totale sono 1.700 i cittadini italiani che sono stati direttamente o indirettamente sponsorizzati da aziende australiane.

L’utilizzo del visto “457” da parte di cittadini italiani è in crescita annuale dal 2009-10. Dai 657 visti totali del 2009-10, siamo passati a 918 nel 2010-11, incrementati a 1.380 nel 2011- 12, per raggiungere le 1.700 unità nell’ultimo anno finanziario 2012-13. Fra le professioni più richieste quelle legate all’hospitality: Cook (+94,8%, rispetto all’anno precedente), Café/Restaurant Manager (+199,2%) e Chef.

L’aumento di visti di residenza richiesti da cittadini italiani una volta giunti sul territorio australiano, come il secondo visto vacanza-lavoro e i visti studenti, rappresenta un nuovo fenomeno legato al tentativo di prolungare la permanenza in Australia, alla ricerca di una crescita personale, professionale e a un migliore tenore di vita rispetto a quello offerto in Italia. L’emigrazione attuale ha creato un terzo gruppo migratorio, ben distinto, numeroso, con progettualità, esigenze e caratteristiche completamente diverse da quelle già presenti sul territorio.

Con 924 visti di residenza permanente concessi a cittadini italiani (+12,87% rispetto all’anno precedente), il 2012-13 conferma un trend che vede crescere la presenza di cittadini italiani in Australia anche nella categoria delle aggiunte permanenti alla popolazione residente. A fronte di 123.438 stranieri provenienti da 190 nazioni diverse, nel 2012-13, 694 cittadini italiani hanno ottenuto la cittadinanza australiana, lo 0,56% del totale. Dal 2001 si contano 10.078 italiani che in occasione di cerimonie ufficiali hanno acquisito la nuova cittadinanza.
