Impazza in tutto il mondo e anche in Italia, l’ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE, la doccia ghiacciata per raccogliere fondi per la SLA (sclerosi laterale amiotrofica).

Pare che sia stato Chris Kennedy, un golfista della Florida, a dare inizio alla gara. Tra i nominati è poi arrivato il malato di Sla Pete Frates che con coraggio ci ha provato e quando gli è arrivata l’acqua con ghiaccio ha riconosciuto quella brutta sensazione della sclerosi: muscoli bloccati e mente cosciente.

Intanto si apprende che Corey Griffin, un accanito sostenitore dell’iniziativa, è annegato in un incidente subacqueo sull’isola di Nantucket, Massachusetts. Griffin aveva contribuito a raccogliere 100.000 dollari per il suo amico Pete Frates.

Diventata virale sui social network, la ”sfida del secchio d’acqua ghiacciata”, la Ice Bucket Challenge, gara di beneficenza per la sclerosi laterale amiotrofica (Sla), raccoglie cifre da capogiro : la ALS, l’associazione americana che l’ha promossa, comunica oggi di aver raccolto 31 milioni e mezzo di dollari in donazioni. Una cifra record considerando che lo scorso anno nello stesso periodo (29 luglio-20 agosto) erano stati raccolti 1,9 milioni di dollari. I fondi, spiega l’associazione sul suo sito, sono destinati all’assistenza dei pazienti di Sla e delle loro famiglie.

Il “gioco”, che punta anche a sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica, è semplice: chi viene sfidato ha 24 ore di tempo per rovesciarsi addosso un secchio di acqua gelata, altrimenti deve fare una donazione all’associazione. O può fare entrambe le cose. Chi supera la prova conquista il diritto di sfidare altre persone. La condivisione sui social network è un’altra fetta del fenomeno.

Solo su Facebook oltre 28 milioni di persone hanno partecipato alla conversazione sull’Ice Bucket Challenge e sono stati condivisi oltre 24 milioni di video delle ‘secchiate’.

Negli Stati Uniti, Paese da cui è partita la sfida, si sono cimentati i big del mondo della tecnologia, come Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Tim Cook, ma anche star internazionali, da Lady Gaga a Oprah Winfrey. In Italia hanno partecipato da Mario Balotelli a Roberto Bolle, passando per Fiorello che (dopo un deputato dei 5 Stelle) ha invitato a partecipare il premier Matteo Renzi.
