I GRANDI MAESTRI DEL JAZZ INTERNAZIONALE ARRIVANO A CAGLIARI – 10-26 OTTOBRE 2013THE BIG STAR INTERNATIONAL JAZZ IN CAGLIARI – OCTOBER 10 TO 26

Dal 10 al 26 ottobre Cagliari si anima al ritmo di jazz con “I Grandi Maestri del Jazz Internazionale”. Nove appuntamenti prestigiosi per la rassegna autunnale proposta da Sardegna Concerti in coproduzione con la cooperativa Forma e Poesia nel Jazz e Jazz in Sardegna. Cinque i palchi che accoglieranno i grandi nomi del jazz mondiale e nostrano sparsi per i quartieri della città: Teatro Massimo e Teatro delle Saline, mentre nel centro storico gli spazi allestiti presso Sotto la Torre Osteria del Doge (Castello, v. S. Croce), Villa Muscas e la Galleria d’Arte Paola Frau.

Tre gli appuntamenti a pagamento davvero imperdibili con i grandi nomi internazionali: il 14 ottobre si parte proprio dal Teatro Massimo alle 21,00 con due leggende del jazz americano, Tuck Andress e Patti Cathcart, in arte Tuck&Patti, da trentacinque anni un legame indissolubile, una magica unione di chitarra e voce ormai entrata nella storia della musica. L’esordio arriva nel 1988 grazie alla loro personale interpretazione del brano “Time After Time” di Cindy Lauper. Da allora una lunga discografia segna una carriera straordinaria, costruita su una dialettica contagiosa, studiata, ma che trasmette un dialogo istintivo, che si sviluppa sul palco e in studio per osmosi, tra voce potente e improvvisazione scat di Patti e formidabile bravura chitarristica di Tuck. Il 17 ottobre al Teatro delle Saline serata fusion esplosiva con il HBC The Super Trio, acronimo che raccoglie le iniziali di tre autentici maestri provenienti tutti dal mondo del jazz-rock: Henderson (Scott), uno dei chitarristi più rappresentativi della jazz-fusion mondiale; Berlin (Jeff), straordinario innovatore del basso elettrico; Chambers (Dennis), batterista di grande potenza e versatilità. Il trio ha firmato il suo disco d’esordio un anno fa dove l’energia trascinante di Scott Henderson si fonde perfettamente con la musicalità dei due musicisti. Un formidabile sodalizio artistico che attraversa i brani di Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, fino ai brani originali. Biglietto € 20,00 inclusa prevendita (posto numerato).

Il 25 ottobre il grande trombettista pluripremiato Dave Douglas, considerato dalla rivista statunitense DownBeat “il re senza pretese del jazz indipendente”, arriva con il suo quintetto formato da Jon Irabagon al sax, Luis Perdomo al piano, Linda Oh al basso e Rudy Royston alla batteria. Una formazione da togliere il fiato con cui ha registrato (ma con il pianista Matt Mitchell e nel penultimo disco con la cantante Aoife O’Donovan) anche gli ultimi due album “Be Still” (2012) e “Time Travel” (2013). “La forza di un quintetto – sostiene Douglas – è un testamento di salute della attuale scena jazz. Si sta trasformando in un ambiente di crescita davvero ricco e di grande ispirazione nella musica”. Biglietto € 20,00 inclusa prevendita (posto numerato).

Il 10 ottobre invece la rassegna prende il via con i grandi appuntamenti gratuiti che vedono protagonisti i jazzisti nostrani tra i più apprezzati nella scena nazionale e internazionale che si proporranno in una serie di tributi inediti e molto speciali dedicati ai grandi maestri del jazz internazionale. Alle 19,30 il tributo a Wes Montgomery, uno dei maggiori chitarristi della storia del jazz, del Massimo Ferra Organ Trio, nello spazio allestito nel locale del quartiere Castello “Sotto la Torre Osteria del Doge”. Sul palco il chitarrista e compositore cagliaritano tra i più stimati dell’isola insieme a Mauro Mulas, organo Hammond, e Marcello Mameli alla batteria, ordisce un repertorio di brani standard del leggendario chitarrista, combinato naturalmente alle composizioni originali del trio.

L’11 ottobre sempre nel suggestivo palco Sotto la Torre alle 19,30 un altro omaggio stavolta dedicato ai “quattro di Liverpool” dal titolo “Bitless Bridge”, progetto dei quattro maestri dell’Associazione Musicale “Sp Guitar Institute” di Assemini che raccoglie appassionati di chitarra e dove si tengono corsi musicali. Massimo Ferra (maestro di chitarra), Simone Pilloni (maestro di chitarra pop-rock-fusion), Brian Maillard (maestro di chitarra heavy metal) e Corrado Salis (maestro di basso e contrabbasso) e la loro grande passione per i “Fab Four” suggerisce spontaneamente questo progetto in cui le canzoni dei Beatles vengono riviste in una inedita forma strumentale costituita da un ensemble di tre chitarre elettriche e un basso elettrico. Una rilettura decisamente originale dall’impatto sonoro inedito.

Il 16 ottobre l’omaggio di Paolo Carrus “New Ensemble” a Pat Metheny, ancora Sotto la Torre alle 19,30. Un’idea nata dal desiderio del pianista e compositore tra i più famosi e apprezzati della Sardegna di presentare nella dimensione dell’ottetto orchestrale le peculiarità stilistiche del grande chitarrista americano, tra i grandi compositori e leader nella musica jazz.

Il 24 ottobre si accende il palco di Villa Muscas dove si terranno due concerti a partire dalla 19,30. In apertura il Blue Note Memorabilia Quartet con Stefano D’Anna al sax tenore, Mariano Tedde al piano; Alessandro Atzori al contrabbasso, Gianrico Manca alla batteria. Qui l’omaggio è per la storica casa discografica guidata da Alfred Lion da cui il quartetto prende il nome. I loro punti di riferimento sono i grandi compositori che hanno animato la scena tra gli anni’ ’50 e ’60: da Horace Silver ai Jezz Messengers, passando per Kenny Dorham e Joe Henderson, fino a Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock e Lee Morgan. Sul palco a introdurre la grande black music della Blue Note Sergio Benoni e Radio X.

Subito dopo il live di Alessandro Lanzoni Trio nel progetto “Dark Flavour”.Tre giovani e musicisti legati da una forte amicizia, ma soprattutto da una grande passione per il jazz: Alessandro Lanzoni al pianoforte e leader, “Best Young Soloist” a Parigi nel 2010 al concorso internazionale Martial Solal, già affermatosi nei più importanti concorsi in Italia; Matteo Bortone al contrabbasso e Enrico Morello alla batteria. Si sono incontrati durante i due anni dell’International Jazz Master, nelle aule di Siena Jazz, dove è nata subito una grande intesa. Il loro primo album, rivela già una fisionomia ben delineata: un repertorio perlopiù di brani originali, frutto delle doti compositive del leader (e non solo), ma anche brani della migliore tradizione del jazz, con scelte estremamente mirate da Monk a Coltrane. L’ingresso per la serata a Villa Muscas è di €5,00.

Il 26 ottobre alla Galleria d’Arte Paola Frau alle 19,30 la chiusura della rassegna è affidata a un duo ben noto in Sardegna e oltremare: Elva Lutza, ovvero Nico Casu alla voce e tromba e Gianluca Dessì, chitarra. Vincitori del Premio Parodi 2012,  hanno realizzato il loro primo album sotto l’etichetta di S’Ardmusic (Jazz in Sardegna) e calcato i palchi prestigiosi dell’European Jazz Expo e dei più importanti dell’isola, oltre a varcare i confini nazionali da vent’anni. Jazz, folk, blues, musica della Sardegna, balcanica, partenopea. Il sardo però è la lingua che domina sulle loro composizioni. Una lingua madre che i due musicisti parlano da sempre nei loro paesi d’origine. La loro musica è un incrocio luminoso di tradizioni popolari che si fondono in un solo colore: accogliente, brillante.

On 10 October instead of the show kicks off with the great free events featuring the jazz musicians who see our own among the most popular in the national and international scene that will be proposed in a series of new and very special tribute dedicated to the great masters of international jazz . At 19.30 the tribute to Wes Montgomery, one of the greatest guitarists in jazz history , the Massimo Ferra Organ Trio , in the space set up in the local neighborhood of the Castle ” Under the Tower Osteria del Doge ” . On stage, the guitarist and composer Cagliari among the most esteemed of the island together with Mauro Mulas , Hammond organ , and drums Marcello Mameli , weaves a repertoire of standard tunes of the legendary guitarist , combined of course with the original compositions of the trio.
