L’EJE – Festival Internazionale Jazz in Sardegna, la manifestazione conosciuta a livello nazionale per il suo originale format (3 giorni, 8 palchi, 50 artisti anche in contemporanea) e per la sua grande capacità di coinvolgimento di pubblico (oltre 20 mila presenze nella media degli ultimi 5 anni), dopo la serata inaugurale entra nel vivo della programmazione nella seconda giornata della 31° edizione con un triplo concerto dal vivo e un cartellone davvero spettacolare con alcuni dei più grandi nomi del jazz mondiale, dalla nuovissima venue del Parco della Musica, nel cuore della città, nella Piazza Amedeo Nazzari. Alle 20.00 il primo concerto è sul palco di Villa Muscas (ingresso gratuito) con Luca Aquino, trombettista tra i più interessanti talenti italiani, che presenterà in duo insieme a Carmine Ioanna alla fisarmonica il suo nuovo lavoro “aQustico”, quinta incisione a nome del giovane trombettista beneventano la cui generosità, curiosità e versatilità artistiche confermano la freschezza e l’originalità dei suoi lavori pubblicati.
Alle 21,00 doppio concerto imperdibile al Parco della Musica (ingresso a pagamento), nella nuovissima arena-spettacolo all’aperto di 2000 posti a sedere: alle 21.00 Hiromi, la giovane pianista e compositrice pluripremiata giapponese che ha incantato il pubblico e la critica mondiale con il suo album di debutto del 2003, Another Mind (Telarc). Con la sua ultima uscita discografica Move (2012) arriva a Cagliari con The Trio Project: Anthony Jackson al basso e alla batteria Steve Smith, due musicisti formidabili. Subito dopo altro concerto esplosivo con The Brecker Brother Reunion, la storica band funk e jazz-fusion guidata da Randy Brecker (Philadelphia), virtuoso della tromba e compositore tra i più apprezzati nella scena jazzistica mondiale che ha plasmato il suono del jazz, del R&B e del rock per più di quattro decenni. Randy Brecker per questa nuova tournèe europea ha riunito un vero supergruppo che porta con sè la profonda storia dei Brecker Brothers, tra cui la chitarra incendiaria jazz fusion di Dean Brown, il tastierista George Whitty (Carlos Santana, Dave Matthews), il bassista C.M. Doky (Mike Stern) e il batterista Dave Weckl (George Benson, Chick Corea, Mike Stern), tra i più importanti e dotati tecnicamente di questi tempi. A ripercorrere al sax le importanti orme di Michael è l’italiana “rising star” Ada Rovatti.
Il live della Reunion di questa band segna un’occasione rara, che si potrà  sperimentare dal vivo al Festival Internazionale Jazz in Sardegna.

Hiromi
Nata a Shizuoka, in Giappone, nel 1979, Hiromi Uehara prese le prime lezioni di piano all’età di 6 anni, dimostrandosi subito dotatissima, precoce e rapida nell’apprendere. Il suo album di debutto del 2003, Another Mind ha incantato la comunità jazz. L’euforia scatenata dal suo primo album si è propagata al nativo Giappone, dove ha venduto 100 mila copie e ricevuto l’Album of the Year dalla RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan). Il secondo album della compositrice/tastierista, Brain, ha ricevuto nel 2004 il premio Horizon ai Surround Music Awards, il premio New Star dal Swing Journal, l’album d’oro da Jazz Life, il Best Japanese Jazz Album da HMV Japan, e il premio miglior artista giapponese del Japan Music Pen Club, club di giornalisti di musica jazz e classica. Brain è stato anche nominato Album dell’anno dai lettori del Swing Journal nel 2005. Nel 2006 Hiromi ha vinto il Best Jazz Act ai Boston Music Awards e il premio Rising Star al Guinness Jazz Festival. Ha inoltre meritato i premi Jazzman of the Year, Pianist of the Year e Album of the Year nel sondaggio dei lettori giapponesi del Swing Journal per il suo album del 2006, Spiral. Nel 2007 pubblica Time Control e nel 2008, Beyond Standard. Entrambi i dischi vedono la partecipazione speciale della super band di Hiromi, i Sonic Bloom. Nel gennaio 2010 esce il suo più disco di piano solo, dal titolo Place to be mentre la sua ultima uscita è l’album in trio intitolato Move, registrato come il precedente Voice, insieme a due musicisti formidabili: il bassista Anthony Jackson e il batterista Simon Phillips.

Randy Brecker
Attraverso gli anni ’70 e ’80, il trombettista Randy Brecker e Michael, suo fratello e sassofonista straordinario scomparso il 13 gennaio del 2007 a causa di una rara forma di leucemia, hanno segnato un nuovo corso nell’ambito della musica moderna mescolando jazz, funk e rock. Dal loro debutto nel 1975 e la successiva serie di album popolari come Don’t Stop The Music (1977) la “Brecker Brothers Band” ha contribuito a impostare nuove basi per i musicisti che sono seguiti. Randy Brecker (Philadelphia), virtuoso della tromba e compositore tra i più apprezzati nella scena jazzistica mondiale, ha plasmato il suono del jazz, del R&B e del rock per più di quattro decenni. Tantissime le sue collaborazioni: da James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen e Parliament-Funkadelic a Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, David Sanborn, Jaco Pastorius, Horace Silver e Frank Zappa. Come solista ha pubblicato una serie di album (“Into the Sun”, “Hangin ‘in the City”, “Randy Brecker Live with the WDR Big Band”, “Randy in Brasil”), con cui si è portato a casa ben 5 Grammy.

Luca Aquino
Trombettista, flicornista e compositore di Benevento. Pochi maestri, tra i quali Paolo Fresu. E tanti dischi da ascoltare. Luca Aquino proviene dal rock, ama le melodie e odia i modelli (non solo nel campo musicale) e i futili virtuosismi. In musica come nella vita attribuisce pari importanza al suono e al silenzio. Ammaliato dal soffio di Chet Baker,  capisce di appartenere completamente alla musica. Infatti, riprende la tromba per non smettere più di suonare. Premio “Massimo Urbani” pubblica nel 2008 il suo primo album solista “Sopra le nuvole” (Universal Music) e nel 2009 “Lunaria” a cui seguono “Amam” e “Tcs”, e nel 2010 “Icaro solo” lo fa emergere tra i vertici della musica elettronica. Nel 2011 registra “Chiaro” per la Tùk Music. Collabora anche con Jon Hassel, Enrico Rava e gira il mondo in oltre settecento concerti. Nel 2012 entra nella formazione del batterista Manu Katchè e nel 2013 il nuovo album “aQustico” per Tùk Music.

The EJE – International Festival Jazz in Sardinia, the event known nationally for its original format (3 days, 8 stages, 50 artists also simultaneously) and for his great ability to involve the public (over 20,000 in attendance average of the last 5 years), after the opening night of programming comes alive on the second day of the 31st edition with a triple live concert and a billboard truly spectacular with some of the biggest names in the jazz world, from the new venue of the Park Music, in the heart of the city, in Piazza Amedeo Nazzari. At 20.00 the first concert on the stage of Villa Muscas (free admission) with Luca Aquino, trumpeter of the most interesting Italian talent, who will present a duo with Carmine Ioanna accordion his new work “aQustico” fifth incision on behalf of the Benevento young trumpeter whose generosity, curiosity and artistic versatility confirm the freshness and originality of his published works.

With its last record release Move (2012) comes to Cagliari with The Trio Project: Anthony Jackson on bass and Steve Smith on drums, two musicians formidable. Immediately after another concert explosive with The Brecker Brother Reunion, the historic funk and jazz-fusion driven by Randy Brecker (Philadelphia), trumpet virtuoso and composer among the most popular in the jazz scene in the world that has shaped the sound of jazz, R & B and rock for more than four decades. Randy Brecker for this new European tour has assembled a true supergroup that brings with it the deep history of the Brecker Brothers, including the incendiary guitar jazz fusion of Dean Brown, keyboardist George Whitty (Carlos Santana, Dave Matthews), bassist CM Doky (Mike Stern) and drummer Dave Weckl (George Benson, Chick Corea, Mike Stern), among the most important and technically gifted these days. To retrace the footsteps of the important sax Michael is the Italian “rising star” Ada Rovatti.

The euphoria sparked by his first album has spread to native Japan, where it sold 100,000 copies and received the Album of the Year by RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan). The second album of the composer / keyboardist, Brain, has received the 2004 Horizon Award at the Surround Music Awards, the New Star award from Swing Journal, the album gold Jazz Life, the Best Japanese Jazz Album from HMV Japan, and the prize for best Japanese artist of the Japan Music Pen Club, club of journalists of jazz and classical music. Brain was also named Album of the Year by the readers of Swing Journal in 2005. In 2006, Hiromi won Best Jazz Act at the Boston Music Awards and the Rising Star Award at the Guinness Jazz Festival. He also earned awards Jazzman of the Year, Pianist of the Year and Album of the Year in the poll of readers of Japanese Swing Journal for his 2006 album Spiral. In 2007 he published Time Control and in 2008, Beyond Standard. Both discs are attended special super band of Hiromi, Sonic Bloom. In January 2010 he released his most disc of solo piano, entitled Place to be while his last release was the album titled Move trio, recorded as the previous Voice, along with two formidable musicians: bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Phillips.

Randy Brecker
Through the ’70s and ’80s, trumpeter Randy Brecker and Michael, his brother and extraordinary saxophonist who passed away on January 13, 2007, due to a rare form of leukemia, marked a new course in the context of modern music mixing jazz, funk and rock. Since their debut in 1975 and the subsequent series of popular albums such as Do not Stop The Music (1977) the “Brecker Brothers Band” has helped to set up new bases for musicians who followed. Randy Brecker (Philadelphia), trumpet virtuoso and composer of the most popular jazz scene in the world, has shaped the sound of jazz, R & B and rock for more than four decades. A large number of his collaborations: from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, and Parliament-Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, David Sanborn, Jaco Pastorius, Horace Silver and Frank Zappa. As a soloist he released a series of albums (“Into the Sun”, “Hangin ‘in the City”, “Randy Brecker Live with the WDR Big Band”, “Randy in Brasil”), with which he took home 5 Grammy.

Luca Aquino
Trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer of Benevento. A few teachers, including Paolo Fresu. And many records to listen to. Luca Aquino comes from the rock, the melodies loves and hates models (not just in music) and futile virtuosity. In music, as in life gives equal importance to sound and silence. The only shows with entrance fee will be those of 24, 25 and 26 at the Music Park, while the inaugural 23 to Parco della Musica and those expected at Villa Muscas will be free admission.
