Jazz per palati fini, domani sera (venerdì 28) a Quartucciu (CA): alla Domus Art (ex Casa Angioni) è di scena un’autentica icona del jazz italiano, Franco Cerri, in concerto a partire dalle ore 21. Ad affiancare il grande chitarrista milanese per questo appuntamento organizzato dall’associazione culturale Shannara, due volti noti del jazz targato Sardegna: il pianista Paolo Carrus e il bassista CorradoSalis.

L’ingresso, a 12 euro, comprende una degustazione di vini e prodotti biologici a partire dalle ore 19.30. Classe 1926, Franco Cerri ha mosso i primi passi nella musica quando i fuochi dell’ultimo conflitto mondiale non si erano ancora spenti. L’amicizia con il pianista Giampiero Boneschi e una chitarra regalatagli dal padre, gli danno modo di approfondire la conoscenza del jazz. Nel 1945 intraprende la sua carriera di musicista al fianco di Gorni Kramer con Bruno Martelli, Franco Mojoli, Carlo Zeme e il Quartetto Cetra, e nel 1949 si trova a suonare con Django Reinhardt: la sua prima, vera influenza chitarristica. Il nome del virtuoso tzigano dello strumento a corde è anche fra i primi del lungo elenco di musicisti stranieri con cui Franco Cerri avrà modo di suonare nel corso del tempo: una lista che comprende, fra i tanti, jazzisti del calibro di Barney Kessel (altro riferimento stilistico fondamentale per il chitarrista milanese), Billie Holiday, Bud Shank, Chet Baker, Claude Williamson, Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, George Grunz, Gerry Mulligan, Jean-Luc Ponty, Jim Hall, Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Lou Bennett, Martial Solal, Modern Jazz Quartet, Phil Woods, Stephane Grappelli, Tal Farlow, Tony Scott, Toots Thielemans.

Oltre ad aver suonato con quasi tutti i più grandi jazzisti italiani, Franco Cerri ha guidato quartetti e quintetti a suo nome in cui figuravano musicisti come Gianluigi Trovesi e Tullio De Piscopo, e ha scoperto e incoraggiato il giovane e straordinario talento di Dado Moroni. Volto noto anche sul piccolo schermo, il chitarrista è stato ospite di centinaia di trasmissioni televisive oltre ad aver condotto lui stesso diversi programmi musicali per la Rai. A partire dagli anni Settanta ha cominciato a sviluppare il lavoro di arrangiamento, riflettendo sulla partitura e le peculiarità del suo stile. Nel 1980 ha inaugurato il sodalizio con il pianista e compositore Enrico Intra con il quale ha fondato e dirige i Civici Corsi di Jazz di Milano, organizzando anche rassegne concertistiche.

Domani (venerdì 28) a Quartucciu Franco Cerri ritrova sul palco Paolo Carrus, pianista con cui ha già suonato una quindicina di volte (la prima risale a metà anni Ottanta, con un’orchestra diretta da Giulio Libano) e Corrado Salis al basso, per proporre un repertorio di standard americani e qualche classico italiano debitamente arrangiati dal chitarrista milanese in quell’atmosfera soffusa e quasi cameristica che predilige, e accompagnati da aneddoti e ricordi tratti dalla sua quasi settantennale carriera musicale.
Jazz for gourmets, tomorrow night (Friday 28) in Quartucciu (CA): the Domus Art (former House Angioni) is a true icon of Italian jazz scene, Franco Cerri, in concert starting at 21. Alongside the great guitarist Milan for this event organized by the cultural Shannara, two familiar faces of jazz weblog Sardinia: the pianist and bassist Paolo Carrus CorradoSalis.

Born in 1926, Franco Cerri has taken the first steps in music when the fires of the Second World War had not yet turned off. The friendship with the pianist Giampiero Boneschi and a guitar given to him by his father, give way to deepen their knowledge of jazz. In 1945 he began his career as a musician alongside Gorni Kramer with Bruno Martelli, Franco Mojoli, Carlo Zeme and Quartetto Cetra, and in 1949 he is playing with Django Reinhardt: his first real guitar influence. The name of the gypsy virtuoso of the stringed instrument is also among the first of the long list of foreign musicians with whom Franco Cerri will be able to play in the course of time, a list that includes, among many jazz luminaries such as Barney Kessel (other fundamental stylistic reference for the guitarist Milan), Billie Holiday, Bud Shank, Chet Baker, Claude Williamson, Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, George Gruz, Gerry Mulligan, Jean-Luc Ponty, Jim Hall, Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Lou Bennett, Martial Solal, Modern Jazz Quartet, Phil Woods, Stephane Grappelli, Tal Farlow, Tony Scott, Toots Thielemans.

In addition to having played with almost all the major Italian jazz musicians, Franco Cerri led quartets and quintets in his name which included such musicians as Gianluigi Trovesi and Tullio De Piscopo, and discovered and encouraged the young and extraordinarily talented Dado Moroni. A familiar face on the small screen, the guitarist was a guest of hundreds of television in addition to having conducted himself several music programs for RAI. Since the seventies began to develop the work of arrangement, reflecting the score and the peculiarities of his style. In 1980 he inaugurated his partnership with the pianist and composer Enrico Intra, with whom he founded and directs the Civic Jazz Courses in Milan, organizing music festivals.

Tomorrow (Friday 28) in Quartucciu Franco Cerri found on stage Paolo Carrus, pianist with whom he had played fifteen times (the first dates back to the mid-eighties, with an orchestra conducted by Giulio Lebanon) and Corrado Salis and bottom, propose a repertoire of American standards and some classic Italian duly arranged by guitarist Milan in the atmosphere soft and almost chamber music he prefers, and accompanied by anecdotes and memories drawn from his nearly seventy-year musical career.
