A Cagliari, consueto appuntamento di primavera con il jazz di qualità: dal 19 aprile al primo giugno ritorna la rassegna “Forma e poesia nel Jazz”, quest’anno al traguardo della sua sedicesima edizione. Con un’importante novità: dall’associazione culturale Shannara, che ne ha guidato il cammino dal 1997, il timone passa alla cooperativa Forma e poesia nel jazz, un sodalizio nuovo ma che già nel nome suona come una garanzia di continuità.

La Brass Bang! di Paolo Fresu, Steven Bernstein, Gianluca Petrella e Marcus Roja; il chitarrista Fabio Zeppetella con il suo progetto “Jobim Variations”; il duo della cantante Simona Bandino con il pianista Peter Waters; il P.O.V. Quintet del batterista Alessandro Paternesi; l’Enchantment Quartet del trombettista Fabrizio Bosso; l’ElecTrio di Roberto Gatto: questi i protagonisti del cartellone allestito con il contributo della Regione Autonoma della Sardegna (Assessorato della Pubblica Istruzione, Sport e Spettacolo e Assessorato del Turismo), della Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, della Provincia e del Comune di Cagliari.

Partenza col botto, il 19 aprile al Teatro Lirico (ore 21), degna cornice per il concerto della Brass Bang!, l’esplosivo, piccolo-grande ensemble di soli ottoni che riunisce sotto la sua insegna quattro stelle di prima grandezza del jazz contemporaneo: due trombettisti, il sardo Paolo Fresu, fra i maggiori protagonisti del panorama italiano di questa musica, e l’americano Steven Bernstein, una delle personalità più prolifiche della scena downtown di New York; il trombonista barese Gianluca Petrella, considerato fra i grandi specialisti dello strumento a coulisse (come dimostra il suo ragguardevole palmarès), e quello che per molti è invece il miglior suonatore di basso tuba al mondo, il newyorkese Marcus Rojas. Il repertorio annunciato è lo stesso che a fine aprile confluirà nella registrazione in studio del primo disco di Brass Bang!: brani perlopiù originali, firmati in parti uguali dai quattro componenti, ma anche riletture di pezzi come “As Tears Go By” dei Rolling Stones, “Manic Depression” di Jimi Hendrix e “Black and Tan Fantasy” di Duke Ellington.

Dopo il concerto inaugurale, proposto in coproduzione con la Fondazione Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, la rassegna si trasferisce per i successivi appuntamenti (tutti con inizio alle 21) al Piccolo Auditorium in piazzetta Dettori.

Doppio impegno in programma il 3 maggio. Si comincia con le “Love Notes” della cantante cagliaritana Simona Bandino e del pianista australiano Peter Waters. Poi, a tenere banco saranno le note di “Jobim Variations”, l’omaggio del chitarrista Fabio Zeppetella a uno dei padri della bossa nova, Antonio Carlos Jobim, già consegnato alle tracce dell’omonimo disco del 2009. Ad affiancare Zeppetella sul palco, tre musicisti del calibro di Danilo Rea al pianoforte, Ares Tavolazzi al contrabbasso (entrambi già presenti anche nel disco) e Ellade Bandini alla batteria.

Dal tributo a una leggenda della musica brasiliana ai volti nuovi del jazz “made in Italy”: la sera dopo, sabato 4 maggio, la scena è tutta per il P.O.V. Quintet del batterista Alessandro Paternesi, che l’anno scorso ha debuttato come leader e compositore con il suo primo album, “Dedicato”. Insieme a lui, alle prese con piatti e tamburi, il progetto P.O.V. (Point of View) approda a Cagliari con Simone La Maida ai sassofoni, Federico Casagrande alla chitarra elettrica, Gabriele Evangelista al contrabbasso e al pianoforte Enrico Zanisi, Miglior nuovo talento italiano del 2012 per l’annuale referendum Top Jazz promosso dalla rivista Musica Jazz (che al terzo posto della stessa categoria ha visto piazzarsi proprio Alessandro Paternesi).

Il 17 maggio la rassegna cagliaritana punta i riflettori sull’Enchantment Quartet del trombettista Fabrizio Bosso, qui con il giovane e talentuoso Claudio Filippini al pianoforte, Rosario Bonaccorso al contrabbasso e Lorenzo Tucci alla batteria. Nato nel 2011 per registrare con la London Symphony Orchestra e gli arrangiamenti del Maestro Stefano Fonzi l’omaggio di Fabrizio Bosso a Nino Rota nel centenario della nascita (“Enchantment – L’Incantesimo”), il quartetto ha maturato, concerto dopo concerto, una propria sonorità. Da qui la decisione di far vivere questa formazione anche senza l’orchestra, con un repertorio che comprendesse brani di Rota per il cinema, come le musiche per Il Padrino, Romeo e Giulietta, Amarcord, il Gattopardo e La dolce vita, ma anche brani originali di ciascuno dei componenti dell’Enchantment Quartet.

Come ad ogni edizione, anche stavolta “Forma e poesia nel jazz” ha in calendario un appuntamento tra musica e letteratura alla Galleria d’Arte di Paola Frau, in via La Marmora, nel quartiere di Castello: il 25 maggio alle 20.

Sette sere dopo, sabato primo giugno, l’ultimo impegno per questa edizione numero sedici della rassegna: il compito di chiudere I giochi, al Piccolo Auditorium (sempre con inzio alle 21), spetta a un altro grande protagonista del jazz italiano, il batterista Roberto Gatto, alla testa del suo ElecTrio, con Alfonso Santimone al piano e al Fender Rhodes, e Pierpaolo Ranieri al basso, qui con la partecipazione dell’altosassofonista Gaetano Partipilo. Un progetto che, senza dimenticare il legame con la tradizione, si muove all’insegna della sperimentazione tra sonorità elettriche e improvvisazione, dando vita a una performance multiforme in cui si alternano atmosfere di grande energia e groove a momenti di lirismo e sonorità progressive.

Quindici euro (più 2,50 di prevendita) il prezzo dei biglietti per tutti i concerti in programma al Piccolo Auditorium. Costa invece trenta euro un posto in platea e venti in prima loggia (più 3 di prevendita) per il concerto di Brass Bang! Al Teatro Lirico. 80 euro il prezzo dell’abbonamento per l’intera rassegna, ma per i primi cento abbonati è riservata una riduzione a 60 euro (+ 5 prevendita).

In Cagliari, usual spring event with quality jazz: from April 19 to June 1 returns the exhibition “Shape and poetry in Jazz”, this year’s goal of its sixteenth edition. With an important new cultural association Shannara, which has led the way since 1997, the helm of the cooperative form in jazz and poetry, a new partnership but a name that sounds like a guarantee of continuity.

Out with a bang, April 19 at the Lyric Theatre (21 hours), a worthy setting for the concert of the Brass Bang!, Explosives, small-sized ensemble of only brass that brings together under his banner four first-magnitude stars of contemporary jazz : two trumpeters, Sardinian Paolo Fresu, one of the major players in the Italian scene of this music, and the American Steven Bernstein, one of the most prolific of the downtown scene in New York, trombonist Gianluca Petrella Bari, considered one of the leading specialists instrument to hem (as evidenced by his impressive prize list), and what for many is however best tuba player in the world, the New York-based Marcus Rojas. The repertoire is the same as announced in late April that will feed into the studio recording of the first album of Brass Bang!: Mostly original songs, signed in equal parts by four components, but also interpretations of songs like “As Tears Go By” by the Rolling Stones , “Manic Depression” by Jimi Hendrix and “Black and Tan Fantasy” by Duke Ellington.

After the opening concert, offered in co-production with the Fondazione Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the exhibition moves to the next appointment (all starting at 21) in the Small Auditorium square Dettori.

Two matches scheduled on May 3. We start with the “Love Notes” the singer Simona Bandino Cagliari and Australian pianist Peter Waters. Then, to keep bank notes will be of “Jobim Variations”, a tribute to the guitarist Fabio Zeppetella one of the fathers of bossa nova, Antonio Carlos Jobim, already delivered to the tracks eponymous album of 2009. As a tribute to a legend of Brazilian music to the new faces of jazz “made in Italy” the next night, Saturday, May 4, the scene is all for the POV Quintet drummer Alessandro Paternesi, who last year made his debut as a leader and composer with his first album, “Dedicated”. Together with him, struggling with cymbals and drums, the project POV (Point of View) arrives in Cagliari with Simone La Maida on saxophones, Federico Casagrande on electric guitar, Gabriele Evangelista on bass and piano Enrico Zanisi, Best New Talent of 2012 for the annual Italian Top Jazz referendum promoted by the magazine Musica Jazz ( in third place in the same category saw their place themselves Alessandro Paternesi).

On May 17, the exhibition spotlights Cagliari sull’Enchantment Quartet trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, here with the young and talented Claudio Filippini at the piano, Rosario Bonaccorso on bass and Lorenzo Tucci on drums. Born in 2011 to record with the London Symphony Orchestra and the arrangements of Maestro Stefano Fonzi’s tribute to Nino Rota Fabrizio Bosso on the centenary of his birth (“Enchantment – The Spell”), the quartet has matured, concert after concert, a their sounds. Hence the decision to live this training without the orchestra, with a repertoire that included works by Rota for the cinema, as the music for The Godfather, Romeo and Juliet, Amarcord, the Leopard and the sweet life, but also tracks original of each of the components dell’Enchantment Quartet.

As every year, this time too, “Form and poetry in jazz” has scheduled a meeting between music and literature at the Art Gallery Paola Frau, in La Marmora, in the district of Castello: May 25 to 20.

Seven nights later, Saturday, June 1, the last number sixteen commitment to this edition of the festival: the task of finishing games, the Small Auditorium (always BEGINNING at 21), it is another great protagonist of the Italian jazz drummer Roberto Gatto, the head of his ElecTrio with Alfonso Santimone on piano and Fender Rhodes, and Pierpaolo Ranieri on bass, here with the participation dell’altosassofonista Gaetano Partipilo. A project, not to mention the link with tradition, moves between electric sounds of experimentation and improvisation, creating a multifaceted performance of alternating atmosphere of great energy and groove with moments of lyricism and progressive sounds.
