Nella sua poliedrica carriera, che attraversa quattro decenni, Dee Dee Bridgewater – vincitrice di tre Grammy, tra cui quello nel 2011 per il Best Jazz Vocal Album con “Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie With Love From Dee Dee”, e di Tony Awards – ha raggiunto i più alti livelli musicali con la sua interpretazione di standard, ma anche facendo intrepidi salti nella rivisitazione dei classici del jazz. L’ultima fatica discografica della cantante di Memphis (uscita nel 2011 con la DDB Records e prodotta dalla figlia Tulani Bridgewater Kowalski) si intitola “Midnight Sun” ed è una raccolta di canzoni che attraversano tutto il suo percorso artistico, sempre acclamato dalla critica. Gli undici brani del disco sono stati selezionati dagli album “Dear Ella”, “Keeping Tradition”, “This Is New”, “J’ai Deux Amours”, “Love & Peace: A Tribute To Horace Silver” e “Eleanora Fagan”. Inserendo classici come “Speak Low” di Kurt Weill, “I’m A Fool To Want You/I Fall In Love Too Easily” di Sammy Cahn, “Midnight Sun” di Johnny Mercer, “Here I’ll Stay” di Alan Jay Lerner, “Que Reste-t-Il?” di Charles Trenet e “Good Morning Heartache” di Billie Holiday, e interpretandoli come solo lei sa fare, la Bridgewater ha creato un ciclo di canzoni che traccia il percorso di una storia d’amore nei suoi diversi stadi.

The singer’s latest recording effort of Memphis (released in 2011 with the DDB Records and produced by his daughter Tulani Bridgewater Kowalski) is titled “Midnight Sun” and is a collection of songs that run throughout his artistic career, always to critical acclaim. The eleven songs on the album were selected by the album “Dear Ella”, “Keeping Tradition,” “This Is New”, “J’ai Deux Amours”, “Love & Peace: A Tribute To Horace Silver” and “Eleanora Fagan” .
