DANCING WITH THE “BAREFOOT”
The small village of San Salvatore to life in the last week of August, becoming the scenario the exciting event known as “stroke of the barefoot”, to be considered of particular relevance to the context in which it takes place and the fervor with which she lived. Starting from the last week of August, a group of women dressed in traditional costume Cabras and barefoot, in a procession carries the statue of the saint by the Church of Greater Cabras at the shrine of San Salvatore, where religious rites were continued for nine days . The race itself begins at dawn on the first Saturday of September. Procured “s’abidu” (dress of brotherhood), give the youth conference in the churchyard of Major Cabras, from where the statue is carried in procession to the outskirts of town. At this point “is curridoris” (pronounced “curridorisi” meaning riders) bind “s’abidu” at the waist, covering the litter that surrounds the statue of the saint, and begin the ride to the village of San Salvatore di Sinis . A “muda” composed by two young runners keeps the sedan with the statue and nobody will have groped to overcome it. Every hundred yards take turns along the way and shouting “Viva Santu Srabadoi” (San Salvatore). Arrived at the village “is curridoris” are greeted by hundreds of worshipers and tourists. The same ritual takes place on Sunday following the trail backward to end at the town where awaits an immense crowd that will result in the procession which will end in front of the churchyard of Santa Maria Assunta. “Is curridororis” come together “A attrus annus”. The following Monday, the women in the procession bearing the statue in the church Maggiore. The rite of the race barefoot wants to be a good omen for the harvest, the abundance of fish in the pond and the fertility of the herds.

Organized by the Municipality of Cabras in collaboration with the Cultural Friendship Association, Saturday, Aug. 11 to Solanas, the streets of the old church of San Pietro, will be the 9th edition of the festival Pasta e Basta. Trays will be distributed in different types of pasta topped with different sauces, prepared by local housewives. All will be accompanied by lots of music and modern Sardinian intermission with a group of acrobats from the street. The start is scheduled for 20.00 hours.
