Descrizione generale:

L’itinerario, percorribile in entrambe le direzioni, segue la linea di costa tra il centro abitato di Buggerru e il “fiordo” di Cala Domestica attraversando inconsueti ambienti naturali con rare specie botaniche, ricchi di storia mineraria e di una non comune bellezza naturalistica; incontrando archi di roccia, guglie e alte falesie di calcare policromo risalenti ad oltre mezzo miliardo di anni fa (Cambriano inferiore) in un mare blu cobalto. Da non perdere il villaggio minerario di Planu Sartu, sorto nella seconda metà del 1800 accanto ad uno dei più importanti giacimenti di calamina (minerali di zinco) d’Europa e scoperto dall’Ingegnere Eyquem, o ancora la Galleria Henry, che buca l’altopiano per 927 metri, voluta dall’ingegnere francese Hilaire Bourdiol nel 1892 per trasportare i minerali da Planu Sartu alle laverie di Buggerru. Con alcune curiosità: nei pressi di Cala Domestica fa bella mostra la formazione rocciosa della dolomia rigata (datata 530 milioni di anni) variamente colorata e resa ancora più evidente dalla erosione selettiva e, poco distante, la presenza di depositi di sabbia sul pianoro ad oltre 100 metri sul mare che testimoniano come durante le tempeste la violenza delle onde e del vento riesca a trasportare fin quassù la sabbia sollevata dal fondo marino. Per continuare lungo la battigia a Cala Domestica, dove una serie di fori circolari indicano la presenza di mitili litofagi prima dell’emersione avvenuta  in epoca recente a causa di probabili fenomeni di bradisismo.

Obbligatori pantaloni lunghi e scarponcini da trekking.
I partecipanti devono comunque avere un allenamento adeguato all’impegno dell’escursione, ed essere in buono stato di salute generale. Cibo e bevande a discrezione di ciascuno.

General Description :

The route is passable in both directions , following the line of coast between the town of Buggeru the ” fjord ” Cala Domestica through unusual natural environments with rare botanical species , rich in mining history and an uncommon natural beauty ; encountering rock arches , spiers and cliffs of limestone polychrome dating back over half a billion years ago ( lower Cambrian ) in a cobalt-blue sea . Do not miss the mining village of Planu Genovese , built in the second half of 1800 , next to one of the most important deposits of calamine ( zinc ore ) found in Europe and Eyquem by the engineer , or the Henry Gallery , that the hole ‘ plateau 927 meters , built by the French engineer Bourdiol Hilaire in 1892 to transport the ore from the Planu Sartu laverie Buggerru . With some curiosity in the vicinity of Cala Domestica looks great rock formation of dolomite rifled (dated 530 million years old ), variously colored and made even more evident by selective erosion , and nearby , the presence of sand deposits on the plateau to more than 100 meters above the sea during storms that demonstrate how the violence of the waves and the wind is able to carry up here the sand raised from the seabed . To continue along the beach in Cala Domestica, where a series of circular holes indicate the presence of mussels lithophagous first emergence occurred in recent times due to probable bradyseism .

Mandatory long pants and hiking boots .
Participants must , however, have a proper workout commitment of the excursion, and be in good general health . Food and drinks at the discretion of each.
