CONCORDIA VOCIS – XXI INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL VOCAL MUSIC – CAGLIARI,TORTOLI, IGLESIAS,GAVOI – AUGUST 28 TO SEPTEMBER 22
Back again sull’avvincente plotted course two decades of activity, the International Festival of Vocal Music “Concordia Vocis.” The festival was born and raised in the lap of the Centro Universitario Musicale di Cagliari chaired and directed by Claudio Serra, with the 2012 edition scheduled as an established custom among the last week of August and September, takes a significant turning point and reaches the twenty-first year of life.
Following the tradition and the experience gained with the previous editions in this XXI International Festival of Vocal Music Vocis Concordia, is in its itinerant character with a series of concerts from August 28 to September 22 with the formation of international standing from Spain, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Italy. A formula of the traveling exhibition, which over the years has offered the opportunity to attend concerts striking the walls of some of the most spectacular religious buildings on the island and that this twenty-first time the festival will take in the scenic walls of the Gothic church of Sant ‘Agostino in Cagliari, in the Cathedral of Saint Andrew of Ogliastra Tortolì Sulcis in the Church of Santa Maria di Valverde Iglesias and yet the Basilica of San Gavino in Gavoi.
Year after year, with the succession of editions, the first adventure of “Concordia Vocis” dates back to 1992, the event has carved out a prestigious role in the musical landscape of the island so as to be one of the most anticipated events for quality, thickness of the musical ideas and for always having hosted new interpreters in some cases real world premieres. With this gift the XXI International Festival of Vocal Music Concordia Vocis was born as a challenge to the many difficulties that are imposed by a period marked by large international economic crisis and the drastic culture that have crippled the industry and a number of cultural operators. But for the organizing team of the festival could not disperse the accumulated cultural heritage and above all to abandon his passionate audience.
Even this twenty fascinating journey into the world of choral music, even though its program of events and smaller formations, confirms the high level them ¬ artistic ensembles invited: the Iberians of the “Coro de la Universidad del Pais Vaschi” ( UPV) conducted by Maestro Enrique Azurza, the formation of Slovenia “Krog Chamber Choir” (Komorni zbor Krog) led the baton of Michael Josia, the “Vocal Ensemble Gentlemen Singers” of the Czech Republic, and finally decreased the number of teams invited to the festival, the “Voice of Nuoro Complex,” directed by Franca Floris.
The series of concerts of this end of summer kicks off on August 28 from the walls of the monumental Gothic church of Sant’Agostino in Baylle Street in the historic district of the Navy with the Spanish the “Coro de la Universidad del Pais Vaschi.” The formation Basque led by Enrique Azurza, already known to the public of the festival in 2010 for leading choirs Iberian “Oroith y Hodeiertz” the next day will be on stage at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Tortoli and as their last stop island August 30 Gavoli will perform at the Basilica of San Gavino. A week later (September 6 to the Church of St. Augustine, 7 in Santa Maria di Valverde Iglesias and finally on September 8 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Tortolì) is the protagonist of a short tour of the three dates ” Krog Chamber Choir “, an ensemble founded in 2005 and consists of 16 young Slovene musicians conducted by Maestro Michael Josia.
On September 10, instead come on stage eight vocalists from the Czech Republic’s “Vocal Ensemble Gentlemen Singers” with the first performance scheduled in Gavoi in the Basilica of San Gavino. Training men known for their ability to interpret and perform music ranging from the period of Gregorian chant to modern arrangements and melodies popular Czech, Moravian and Slovak replicate the concert on the 11th in the Church of Santa Maria di Valverde Iglesias and finally St. Augustine in Cagliari. The curtain on the XXI International Festival of Vocal Music Concordia Vocis will close ten days later, Saturday, Sept. 22, in the monumental Church of St. Augustine in the Marina District of Cagliari with the performance of Sardinian “Complex Voice of Nuoro” directed by rod Franca Floris.
The teams present at the twenty-first time of Concordia Vocis represent as an integral part of the festival, the best international voice and expression as well as in all previous editions, these guests will experience a month of events artistic musical high. This new edition created by uncertainties and difficulties, adds another element to the quality achieved by the event Cagliari. It should not be forgotten fact, that thanks to the awards received in other international contexts, in 2009 Concordia Vocis became part of the official members of the C. F. N. Choral Festival Network, attended by 27 organizations in five continents, divided between Festival and Competition. In Italy, in addition to the Festival of Cagliari, is the International Competition Guido d’Arezzo in Arezzo.
