Va avanti con altri itinerari tra le composizioni del canto a cappella il XXII Festival Internazionale di Musica Vocale Concordia Vocis. Dopo aver aperto l’edizione 2013 invitando sui palcoscenici della manifestazione un quintetto proveniente da Londra, gli organizzatori del C.U.M. (Centro Universitario Musicale di Cagliari) presentano ancora una formazione inglese mai ospitata prima al festival: “The Songmen” che sarà accolta da una performance dei padroni di casa “Echos Vocal Ensemble”.

Le due formazioni saranno, infatti, protagoniste di un’avvincente confronto sul bel canto nel concerto in programma soltanto a Cagliari venerdì 6 settembre alle ore 21 tra le arcate dell’antica Chiesa di Sant’Agostino (ingresso lato Via Baylle).

Per l’occasione del concerto nella monumentale Chiesa edificata nel XVI secolo nello storico quartiere della Marina, la serata sarà aperta dall’ensemble “The Songmen” – il sestetto composto da Guy Lewis, Ben Sawyer, Rob Waters, Chris Monk, Nick Ashby e Jon Beasley è considerato uno dei gruppi vocali inglesi più versatili e in questi ultimi anni ha vinto numerosi concorsi e premi internazionali: nel 2011 il Concorso Internazionale di Tolosa; nel 2012 il loro album “Jazz Midnight” ha partecipato al Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, negli Stati Uniti – offrirà al pubblico cagliaritano una selezione di brani che attraversano la storia delle composizioni per coro.

Dalle rinascimentali “Cantate Domino” di Claudio Monteverdi (1567–1643), “Lord, make thy servant, Elizabeth our Queen” di William Byrd (1540-1623), “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” dell’inglese Thomas Weelkes (1576–1623) e “Now is the month of maying” del Morley (1558–1602), agli spartiti composti da Francis Poulenc (1855–1917) “Margoton va t’a l’iau”, “La belle se sied au pied de la tour”, “Clic, clac, dansez sabots”, “Pilons l’orge”, “Les Tisserands”. Il repertorio eseguito dalla formazione britannica comprende anche gli spartiti contemporanei “Nolo mortem peccatoris” di Robert Waters (1943). “In all eternity” e “Silence and sound” del musicista Ben Sawyer (1978), “Heliseb väljadel” di Urmas Sisask (1960) e per finire il brano “Albore” scritto per Concordia Vocis dal cagliaritano Manuel Cossu.

Tra la prima e la seconda parte del concerto proposto da “The Songmen” sarà il turno della breve performance della formazione cagliaritana “Echos Vocal Ensemble del Coro Polifonico del C.U.M.”. Formazione che fin dall’esordio nel 2008, ha ottenuto numerosi titoli e riconoscimenti, quest’anno inoltre ha pubblicato il suo primo CD, dal titolo “Prologue” ed è stata protagonista alla XXVI^ edizione del Cala Gonone Jazz Festival dove per la prima volta il canto a cappella è stato seguito con estrema attenzione dal folto pubblico della nota rassegna jazz. Il gruppo composto da Alice Madeddu, Eva Pagella, Marta Melis, Tiziana Pani, Manuel Cossu, Riccardo Buffa, Manolo Pisano e Rodrigo Rojas Benitez eseguirà per il pubblico cagliaritano la celebre “Summertime” di George Gershwin, “I’m Yours” di J. Mraz e per concludere lo spartito “Irish Coffee” di Manuel Cossu.

Dopo il concerto nel capoluogo, la formazione inglese “The Songmen” prosegue la breve visita in Sardegna trasferendosi nell’accogliente Ogliastra dove sarà protagonista sabato 7 settembre alle ore 21 alla Cattedrale di Sant’Andrea a Tortolì di una grande serata con il canto a cappella.

Anno dopo anno, con il susseguirsi delle edizioni, la prima volta di “Concordia Vocis” risale al ’92 la manifestazione cresciuta nel grembo del Centro Universitario Musicale di Cagliari presieduto e diretto da Claudio Serra, si è ritagliata un ruolo di prestigio nel panorama musicale isolano e non solo, per qualità, spessore delle proposte e per aver ospitato sempre nuovi interpreti, in alcuni casi vere e proprie prime internazionali. Proprio gli importanti trascorsi della kermesse hanno dato un’ulteriore spinta per proporre l’edizione numero 22 senza piegarsi alle numerose difficoltà: quelle imposte dai drastici tagli ai finanziamenti alla cultura e dalla grossa crisi economica che attanaglia larghe fasce della società italiana. Anche se questo XXII affascinante viaggio nel mondo della musica corale, presenti rispetto alle ultime rassegne, un cartellone più contenuto di appuntamenti, si riconferma per l’alto li¬vello artistico degli ensemble invitati provenienti da Inghilterra, Bielorussia e Italia.
