COINS AS OBJECTS OF ART. CULTURE AND IDENTITY ‘NATIONAL IN SARDINIA IN TIME SABAUDA – SAN PANCRAZIO ESPACE – DECEMBER 4 TO JANUARY 26
Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 17.00, on the premises of Space San Pancrazio, Citadel of Museums, Piazza Arsenale, in Cagliari, the Superintendence for Architectural, Landscape, Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage for the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano, in collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendence of Florence and the NIP, Numismatic Association of Professional Italian, opens the exhibition: “Coins as art objects. culture and national identity in Sardinia Savoy era.”
Will be presented to the public a valuable collection of coins of the House of Savoy, including some cagliaresi, covering a wide time span: from the time of Count Umberto II (1080 – 1103) to King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy (1900 – 1946) . The coins, about 600 copies were donated by Countess Margaret Nugent the Numismatic Cabinet of the Archaeological Museum of Florence in 1954 with a bequest. The State Archives of Cagliari has kindly allowed the reproduction of some acts of trials against counterfeiters and edicts concerning the history of coinage in Sardinia.
