The Music for the Royal Fireworks is an orchestral suite composed by Georg Friedrich Handel (Halle, 1685 – London, 1759) in 1749, commissioned by George II of Great Britain, to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Aachen in 1748 that ended the War of Austrian Succession. The oratorio Solomon is made in less than six weeks, between May 3 and June 13, 1748. The reign of Solomon, which is inspired, is shaped like a perfect metaphor for peace and prosperity they yearned for the United Kingdom. In Handel’s Solomon suggests the monarchical model of successful leadership that provides, among other things, alliances with powerful neighbors. Here, then, the Symphony of the third act that underlines, with great fanfare, the arrival of the Queen of Sheba: it is a delightful movement of a real concert for oboe and strings, in which case unfold slowly, allowing a swinging intarsia melodic. The famous choir See The Conquering Hero Comes is an extraordinary piece taken from the third act of the oratorio Judas Maccabaeus, composed in 1747 in homage to the victorious Duke of Cumberland, brother of the Prince of Wales. It opens with the singing of the young, then fall on the song of the virgins and then continues with the full choir and instrumental ensemble complete with a sound that continues to grow. Ombra mai fu is the initial air opera Xerxes, composed in 1738, and is sung by the protagonist, Xerxes I of Persia, which relies on Handel’s famous castrato Caffarelli. In the nineteenth century the air was rediscovered and became one of the best known songs of British composer. Another of his most beautiful melodies is surely the air Let me weep written in 1711 for the opera Rinaldo, considered by far the most successful in the life of Handel. Zadok the Priest is a true masterpiece of choral music composed for the coronation of George II, the 11 October 1727 at Westminster Abbey, which starts from an orchestral prelude to get to sing “God Save The King “when anointing the new king. Another gem is the famous Handel Choir See The Conquering Hero Comes, originally designed for Joshua and then transferred, by the author himself, another oratorio Judas Maccabaeus. The evening closes with the Overture and the Hallelujah!, World-famous pages, taken oratorio Messiah, the prolific British composer wrote in 1742.

The show relies on the collaboration of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, the Capitta & Partners and Municipal Administrations, work clothes and Cagliari.
