Una commedia grottesca in b/n che racconta una storia di arbitri ambiziosi, allenatori ciechi, bomber di provincia, rivalità paesane, nel più improbabile dei campionati di calcio nell’interno della Sardegna.

L’Atletico Pabarile, la squadra più scarsa della terza categoria sarda, viene umiliata come ogni anno dal Montecrastu, la squadra guidata da Brai (Alessio di Clemente), arrogante fazendero abituato a vessare i peones dell’Atletico in quanto padrone delle campagne.
Il ritorno in paese del giovane emigrato Matzutzi (Jacopo Cullin) rivoluziona gli equilibri del campionato e l’Atletico Pabarile comincia a vincere una partita dopo l’altra, grazie alle prodezze del suo novello fuoriclasse.
Le vicende delle due squadre si alternano con l’ascesa professionale di Cruciani (Stefano Accorsi), ambizioso arbitro ai massimi livelli internazionali, nonché con la sottotrama di due cugini calciatori del Montecrastu, coinvolti in una faida legata ai codici arcaici della pastorizia.
Matzutzi riesce a fare breccia nel cuore di Miranda (Geppi Cucciari), la figlia dell’allenatore cieco Prospero (Benito Urgu), mentre l’arbitro europeo Cruciani si lascia coinvolgere in una vicenda di corruzione che lo porterà in un attimo dalle stelle alle stalle: viene infatti colto in flagrante ed esiliato per punizione negli inferi della terza categoria sarda.

Sviluppo dell’omonimo cortometraggio del trentaseienne cineasta sardo Paolo Zucca, vincitore nel 2009 del David di Donatello, il film è stato presentato alle Giornate degli Autori della 70^ Mostra del Cinema di Venezia.
