Doppia anteprima di mezza estate, a Cagliari, per la settima edizione del Karel Music Expo, il festival della musica indipendente in programma nel capoluogo sardo dal 3 al 5 ottobre. Mentre la vetrina autunnale è in allestimento, la cooperativa Vox Day propone per il prossimo mese di agosto due concerti di segno diverso ma di uguale carica spettacolare: al centro dei riflettori dell’Arena sul lungomare di Sant’Elia la musica cubana del Grupo Compay Segundo (giovedì 1) e il trascinante crossover degli Asian Dub Foundation (sabato 10).

Fra tutti i musicisti coinvolti nello strepitoso successo di “Buena Vista Social Club”, Compay Segundo è forse quello che è rimasto di più nel cuore e nelle orecchie di tutti, in particolare per via di “Chan Chan”, la sua canzone che apre il disco prodotto da Ry Cooder e il film documentario diretto nel 1999 da Wim Wenders. Il lascito musicale di Maximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz – questo il nome al secolo dell’artista cubano scomparso quasi novantaseienne, nel 2003 – è oggi portato avanti dallo straordinario complesso da lui stesso fondato (e di cui fanno parte due suoi figli, Salvador e Basilio). I musicisti che dopo la sua morte, per omaggiarne la memoria, hanno scelto l’insegna di Grupo Compay Segundo, si sono consacrati con assoluta fedeltà alla prosecuzione del cammino del “Patriarca de los Soneros”: un cammino che il primo agosto fa tappa a Cagliari.

Da un’altra isola dell’Atlantico, la Gran Bretagna, sbarcano nove sere dopo (sabato 10) i protagonisti della seconda anteprima del Karel Music Expo, ma gli Asian Dub Foundation hanno radici anche nel subcontinente indiano, la terra dei loro padri. L’incrocio di culture evocato dal nome della band nata a Londra nel 1993, è ben rappresentato dalla sua musica: una miscela di ritmi ragga-jungle, linee di basso indo-dub, energia e chitarre punk rock, elettronica, rap, echi di oriente e battiti bhangra, sitar e tabla campionati, liriche impegnate, veloci e incalzanti. Sulle scene da vent’anni e con dodici album all’attivo, gli ADF approderanno a Cagliari in coincidenza con l’uscita del nuovo disco (prevista appunto per il prossimo agosto), “Signal and the noise”, prodotto da Adrian Sherwood, guarda caso uno dei grandi ospiti della passata edizione del Karel Music Expo.

Double preview midsummer, in Cagliari, for the seventh edition of Karel Music Expo, the festival of independent music in the Sardinian capital program in 3 to 5 October. While the showcase autumn is under construction, the cooperative Vox Day proposes for the month of August, two concerts of a different but equally charged spectacular: in the spotlight of the Arena on the waterfront of St. Elias Cuban music of Grupo Compay Segundo (Thursday 1) and compelling crossover of Asian Dub Foundation (Saturday 10).

Of all the musicians involved in the resounding success of “Buena Vista Social Club”, Compay Segundo is perhaps the one that has remained more in the hearts and ears of all, especially because of “Chan Chan,” his song that opens the record produced by Ry Cooder, and the documentary film directed by Wim Wenders in 1999. The musical legacy of Maximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz – the name of the century by the Cuban disappeared almost ninety-six, in 2003 – is now carried on by the extraordinary complex which he founded (and which includes his two sons, Salvador and Basilio) . The musicians who after his death, for omaggiarne memory, have chosen the sign of Grupo Compay Segundo, who have consecrated themselves with absolute fidelity to the continuation of the journey of “Patriarch de los Soneros”: a journey that makes a stop in the first of August Cagliari.

From another island in the Atlantic, Britain, landed nine nights later (Saturday 10) the protagonists of the second preview of the Karel Music Expo, but the Asian Dub Foundation also have roots in the Indian subcontinent, the land of their fathers. The intersection of cultures evoked by the name of the band was born in London in 1993, is well represented by his music: a mix of ragga-jungle rhythms, indo-dub basslines, electric guitars and punk rock, electronica, rap, echoes of East and bhangra beats, sitar and tabla championships, lyrical engaged, and fast-paced. On the scene for twenty years and twelve albums assets, the ADF will land in Cagliari to coincide with the release of the new album (scheduled for next August in fact), “Signal and The Noise,” produced by Adrian Sherwood, look If one of the special guests of the last edition of Karel Music Expo.
