Aspettando la seconda edizione sarda del Festival delle terre 2013, premio internazionale audiovisivo della biodiversità in rassegna a Cagliari il 12-13-14 Luglio 2013 nella consueta cornice di Villa Muscas, il Centro Internazionale Crocevia vi invita ad un evento di anteprima, che avrà luogo il 21 giugno alle 20:00 presso l’Ostello della Marina, Scalette San Sepolcro 2.
Ad anticipare lo spirito della rassegna, dalle ore 20:00 il pubblico assisterà alla proiezione di uno dei migliori lavori della X edizione romana del Festival, “Stealing from the poor” di Yorgos Avgeropoulos (Grecia 2011), 55′, che racconta le conseguenze della pesca intensiva e il fenomeno, quanto mai emergente, della pesca illegale. A seguire, l’aperitivo di raccolta fondi.

Vi siete mai chiesti da dove provenga il pesce che mangiate? Se sì, sareste tacitamente complici di un gigantesco meccanismo criminoso che si consuma a partire dal vostro piatto.
La crescente domanda di pesce sul mercato tradizionale ha fatto sì che i pescherecci europei e asiatici arrivassero fino alle coste dell’Africa occidentale. Centinaia di imbarcazioni di pirati sono ormai coinvolte nella pesca illegale presso le acque territoriali delle nazioni africane, rendendosi responsabili della devastazione della flora e fauna marina e condannando milioni di africani alla povertà e alla fame. Il documentario “Rubando ai poveri” è stato girato in Senegal, dove la pesca illegale perpetrata da enormi imbarcazioni appartenenti alle nazioni cosiddette sviluppate, sta privando gli abitanti delle coste dell’africa occidentale di una delle loro fonti primarie di sussistenza.
Il saccheggio dei mari africani sta costando ai suoi cittadini circa 1 miliardo di dollari! Il fatturato complessivo del “pescato illegale, deregolamentato e non dichiarato” (IUUF), così come la pesca illegale è ufficialmente definita, è di circa 10 miliardi di dollari.. questi dati, situano questa area come la seconda al mondo nella produzione di pesce, subito dopo la Cina! Il mercato europeo è il più grande ed è il principale importatore di prodotti peschieri nel mondo. Le stime parlano di circa 500,000 tonnellate di pesce illegalmente prodotto che viene illecitamente importato in Europa, per un valoro di 1 miliardo e 100 milioni di euro.
