Across Asia Film Festival è un nuovo appuntamento cinematografico internazionale incentrato sui linguaggi più interessanti della recentissima produzione cinematografica asiatica. Il festival, approfondendo ogni anno la produzione di un singolo paese, intende mostrare il grande apporto dell’Asia in termini di sperimentazione, ricerca estetica e innovazione linguistica sul panorama mondiale.

La prima edizione di Across Asia Film Festival sarà dedicata interamente alla New Wave Filippina, un movimento di artisti, registi e documentaristi sorto nei primi anni del 2000 nell’area di Metro Manila, noto per l’attitudine punk della sua cinematografia. La New Wave Filippina oggi rappresenta una delle più innovative proposte sulla scena internazionale, come testimoniano numerosi festival in tutto il mondo (Festival di Cannes, Mostra del Cinema di Venezia, Edinburgh Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, New Filipino Cinema Yerba Buena CA di San Francisco, New York Filipino Film Festival, Cinemalaya).

Il suo cinema, erede dell’esperienza del Dogma ’95 e del primo Lars von Trier, ha saputo vedere nelle autoproduzioni e nell’abbassamento dei costi dovuto alle tecnologie  digitali la possibilità di rigenerarsi e di creare un’industria indipendente, visionaria e ricca di contenuti.
I film proposti sono tutti inediti in Italia.

Il festival diventa così una finestra sul mondo, un modo diverso e non stereotipato di guardare l’Asia e le sue rappresentazioni.

Across Asia Film Festival, organizzato dall’Associazione Culturale ZEIT, è realizzato con il sostegno della Provincia di Cagliari, in collaborazione con l’Ambasciata della Repubblica delle Filippine, il Film Development Council of Philipines e la Cineteca Sarda – Società Umanitaria di Cagliari, e con il sostegno organizzativo della Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission.
La direzione artistica segue l’esperienza di Across the vision Film Festival ed è curata da Stefano Galanti e Maria Paola Zedda.

Il festival si articolerà in 4 giornate:

LE PROIEZIONI dal 15 al 17 maggio, con 6 lungometraggi e 3 corti, tutti inediti in Italia: Posas, il nuovo film di Lawrence Fajardo, regista che ha stupito con il suo Amok per l’innovazione della narrazione,  e che in anteprima europea presenta un thriller psicologico mozzafiato che esplora la corruzione, la tortura, la violenza della Polizia e delle Istituzioni nelle Filippine;   verranno mostrati per la prima volta al pubblico italiano Buenas Noches, España il lavoro visionario del pluripremiato regista Raya Martin, già presentato al Festival del cinema di Locarno nel 2011, un viaggio lisergico e di un’esperienza di teletrasporto tra Spagna, Messico e Filippine, alla scoperta delle antiche colonie spagnole; The rapture of Fe (Il disagio di Fe)  di Alvin Yapan, prodotto dal Centro di donne in Crisi di Manila, un lavoro che indaga la condizione femminile e il difficile passaggio di autodeterminazione di una giovane donna, tornata nelle Filippine in seguito alla crisi economica globale.
Il festival prosegue con un tributo al regista Khavn de La Cruz, una delle figure più prolifiche del cinema digitale underground, ancora sconosciuto ai più in Italia, definito per la sua poliedrica produzione “il Lars von Trier delle Filippine” (Julien Fonfrede, Montreal Festival Of New Cinema), “il più prolifico e grande filmmaker del mondo” (Variety), “il nuovo Takashi Miike” (Mondo Paura). Di Khavn de la Cruz verranno presentati il documentario Philippine New Wave, che interroga i più grandi e diversi esponenti della New Wave cinematografica delle Filippine, oramai internazionalmente riconosciuti, su che cosa sia per loro fare cinema, sulle influenze, sulla filosofia, sul profondo significato dell’essere indipendenti; Kommander Kulas, un roadmovie visionario vicino all’influenza del regista cileno Alejandro Jodorowski, narra la storia di un anziano combattente alla ricerca del suo cuore, strappatogli durante il sonno; infine il suo ultimo capolavoro, Mondomanila, prodotto dal Festival di Rotterdam, una commedia nera dai toni iperrealisti ambientata nel clima brutale  degli  slum di Manila, che vede come protagonista di un giovanissimo  antieroe per cui la vita è corta, dura e mai dalla tua parte; la storia di una realtà chiusa su se stessa, senza speranza, votata alla marcescenza.

Tra i cortometraggi in programmazione An endless room di Emerson Reyes, da cui è stato sviluppato il suo ultimo lavoro MNL 143, , un dialogo intimo di una giovane coppia, interamente ambientato in una stanza;  premiato per la qualità della sua sceneggiatura ; Kalon di Blecyrezza E. Piluden, una riflessione sulla scelta del matrimonio per un giovane oggi, e Si pagong at si matsing di Ayeen Pineda, un corto di animazione su un racconto tradizionale delle Filippine.

CLOSING PARTY La manifestazione si concluderà con una grande festa coinvolgendo attivamente la Comunità Filippina di Cagliari.

Across Asia Film Festival is a new international film event focused on the languages ​​most interesting of the recent Asian film production. The festival, deepening every year the production of a single country, intends to show the great contribution of Asia in terms of experimentation, aesthetic and linguistic innovation on the world stage.

The first edition of Across Asia Film Festival will be dedicated entirely to the Philippine New Wave, a movement of artists, directors and filmmakers emerged in the early 2000s in the area of ​​Metro Manila, known for the punk attitude of its cinematography. The New Wave Filipino today is one of the most innovative on the international scene, as evidenced by numerous festivals around the world (Cannes Film Festival, the Film Festival in Venice, Edinburgh Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, New Filipino Cinema Yerba Buena CA San Francisco, New York Filipino Film Festival, Cinemalaya).

The art direction follows the experience of vision Across the Film Festival and is curated by Stefano Maria Galanti and Paola Zedda.

The festival will be divided in 4 days:
