An evening with the music of a master of the new European way of Jazz. Jan Garbarek, at the age of 14 years, heard for the first time on the radio and John Coltrane had a kind of enlightenment. Follow in his footsteps he opened new horizons leading him to approach the freest spirits of the New Thing, as Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp and Albert Ayler in particular. In 1964 he had the opportunity to play with Don Cherry, who joined the folk traditions from around the world in a single variety of free jazz. Most important in this period of training, was the American pianist and composer George Russell, who performed with the group at Garbarek Molde Festival in 1965, inviting the young eighteen year old saxophonist to play with his own band. Afric Pepperbird, recorded in Oslo in 1970, is the first record of Garbarek and projects it on the international scene along with members of his band. In 1970, Garbarek transcends the influence of Coltrane and his music moved into new ideas. Triptikon, recorded in 1972, is the turning point. The disc contains, in fact, a first test of adaptation of Norwegian folk music, adaptation will prove vital in later years. In 1974, the fruitful collaboration with Keith Jarrett. Belonging and Lumines-sence is recorded in a single week.
In subsequent work Garbarek, and attention to the folk tradition of Northern Europe, you will hear the influences of classical and contemporary music.

Trilok Gurtu was born in Bombay into a family of great musicians, has performed and collaborated with many great artists on the international scene: Don Cherry (trumpet player father of Neneh and Eagle Eye), the Oregon (historical jazz group), Jan Garbarek (as member of the quartet which also includes L. Shankar and Zakir Hussain), John McLaughlin (as part of The John McLaughlin Trio), Joe Zawinul and Pat Metheny (with the group you support The Crazy Saints), to name just a few, performing many concerts and toured all over the world.
With his band, The Glimpse, formed in 1996, Gurtu has penetrated more deeply into the world of Wold Music expanding its collaborations with artists such as Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo and Oumou Sangare. In 2000 and 2001, with his nuvo group of three Indian musicians and two African musicians he has performed in many festivals around the world. He also continued to perform in concerts only percussion and has worked as a guest artist in the creation of several albums by artists such as Pharoah Sanders, Nitin Sawhney, Lalo Schifrin, Gil Gilbero, Bill Laswell, Annie Lennox.
Trilok Gurtu, who has played with all the best artists of world fusion and modern jazz, is one of the greatest percussionists in the world stage.
