The exhibition “Weaving. Textile Art Sarda “is a collaboration between the City of Samugheo, the MURATS Unique Regional Museum of Art Textiles Sarda, Banca di Sassari, the Armadillo, NEA and NAE.
The exhibition which will open Saturday, November 17 at 19:00, and will be open until Sunday, December 16, will occupy the entire ground floor of the museum and offers a series of 25 carpets, handmade by craftsmen of various centers of Sardinia on projects designed by professionals of international caliber, among which we can mention architects, designers and artists such as Italo Ancient Arp Studio, Arduino Cantafora, Antonio Corriga, Michele De Lucchi, Edoardo Franceschini, Maria Lai, Dissoni Piero, Mauro Manca, Antonio Marras, Jasper Morrison , Costantino Nivola, Antonia Pinna, Aldo Rossi, Ettore Sottsass, Patricia Urquiola and Peter Zedde works come from the collections of the Bank of Sassari, of the armadillo, NEA and NAE.
The exhibition aims to show these collaborations, born from years 50 ‘to the present day, and the title plays on the multiple meanings of the word “weave” vision of carpets / works as a series of “tiles” united by a single principle production / artistic between craftsmen and artists, “weave” as an action directly related to the work of weaving and “weave” as an action that initiates relationships between sectors for over fifty years.
The exhibition as well as giving the opportunity for visitors to enjoy precious artifacts, for the first time together in one place and aims to analyze the issue of whether to renew systems and decorative motifs of traditional crafts in Sardinia and the need to open, because they belong to a society fraught to change.
These works are the evidence of how the various artistic expressions can, through targeted work, creating new opportunities for development of the Sardinian tradition of the fabric.
This shows, in fact, reveals the assumption that there is a craft in Sardinia can produce excellent textile material suitable for creating carpets with traditional technique, but is able to adapt to the ideas, very free and diverse, avant-garde artists of more recent in which the public will have the opportunity to discuss the history and function of the carpet, on the themes of the artists and the dialectic between the Sardinian culture and modern culture.
In the first floor of the museum, however, you will see a display that will highlight the exposure of some of the most important artefacts of the Permanent Collection.
With this project the MURATS inaugurates the beginning of a program that reveals the will to continue to be the guardian of Sardinian history of textiles, through the exhibition of the permanent collection, but also show dynamic performer in witnessing what is happening around us.
The museum, in fact, is a place in which to study both the historical phenomena of our society and territory, such as the folk traditions, as well as those of their transformations. Therefore you should create opportunities and celebrate events from which may arise stimuli, addresses and thematic subjects useful to the study of our society and tradition that does not exclude the possibility of a change also of the production of material culture.
