Born in Sydney, Australia in 1989, the initiative is a major international project that involves every year in late September, almost 40 million people in 120 countries. Brought to Italy by Legambiente, Clean Up the World takes us fifteen years, as is the tradition, calls citizens of all ages and local governments to release waste abandoned parks, gardens, streets and squares of the city, rivers and beaches. Clean Up the World is present throughout the country, thanks to the tireless work of more than 1,500 groups of “volunteers environment” that organize the initiative at the local level with the involvement of schools, associations, committees, and city governments. Cleanup actions are planned in all the regions of Italy, in the smaller towns as in big cities and the membership of this common seventeenth edition are already at 1,400, of which 1,000 small municipalities.
