CONTEMPORARY ART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY – CAGLIARI – JUNE 21

On 21 June at 19 to Museums of Cagliari inaugurate the headquarters of the Ancient City Palace, the exhibition The Art Spaces. From pop art to conceptual. In the evocative setting of the former Municipality of Cagliari, a few years restored and used for exhibitions, exhibited a first section of the contemporary art collection owned by the City Museums.
Pop Art, abstraction and conceptual art poor: the most famous Italian and European artists of the sixties and seventies that animated the halls of the Municipal Art Gallery since 1975, now find their ideal environment at the site of the Ancient Palace city.
Areas of art. From pop to conceptual art is the title of the exhibition, curated by Anna Maria Montaldo. For many years now since first exposure, it revisits the enthralling atmosphere that characterized some of the most prolific of the artistic avant-garde, when to document and trend setting was a single act of artistic research. Complying with the new European interest in the visual arts of the seventies, the Civic Museums of Cagliari concur with this show the will to re-cross paths, patterns, experiments, fun activities, reflections, provocations, gestures. Shapes, objects, paintings, photographs, analysis of language: 39 works representing the experiences of the nodes and the debate that characterized the art scene in those years, when artists were engaged in reflection on the destination of the work, the meaning of their work , the relation of art to society, the active role of the public.
There are three sections in this first exhibition: Pop Art, abstraction and analytical painting, Conceptual Art and Arte Povera. Follow at a later time: Minimal Art, Optical, Kinetic Art.
