….Interprete straordinaria del repertorio popolare messicano e latinoamericano e “tante vite” da raccontare, Chavela Vargas nasce in Costarica nel 1919 e cresce lontana dagli affetti della famiglia, sperimentando fin da piccola il dolore della solitudine e dell’emarginazione.
Appena adolescente, sale su un aereo e scappa in Messico, “il maschio d’America”, come amava definirlo, che l’avrebbe accolta e, come un padre, le avrebbe trasmesso il coraggio della libertà e della coerenza; Il Messico che avrebbe visto la sua arte nascere e trionfare.
Recentemente scomparsa, all’età di 93 anni, dopo una vita avventurosa, ricca di amori (Frida Kahlo fra questi), disperazione, sconfitte e rinascite, Chavela Vargas ci offre un raro esempio di dignità, forza e determinazione, che, pur filtrata dalle imprescindibili fragilità dell’animo umano, conserva integro e cristallino il suo messaggio di verità. Verità che si fa bandiera di una esistenza umana e artistica profondamente significativa e senza compromessi.
Con le sue canzoni Chavela porta in scena frammenti della sua storia e della sua anima, e in ogni melodia, la sua voce “tragica” rende sonori la solitudine e il silenzio.
Le canzoni di Chavela Vargas, le sue verità e le sue storie, ci accompagnano con forza, intensità leggerezza e crudele ironia, nel suo mondo così terreno e così surreale, facendoci tornare, come recita il verso di una sua canzone, “alle cose semplici, ai vecchi luoghi dove abbiamo amato la vita”.

Performer …. amazing repertoire of popular Mexican and Latin American markets and ” many lives ” to tell, Chavela Vargas was born in Costa Rica in 1919 and grows away from the suffering of the family, even as a child experiencing the pain of loneliness and marginalization.
As a teenager , gets on a plane and fled to Mexico, ” the male in America,” as he liked to call it , that accepted her and , as a father , he would have sent the courage of freedom and consistency ; Mexico that would saw the birth and triumph of his art .
Who recently passed away at the age of 93 years , after an adventurous life , full of love affairs ( Frida Kahlo among them ) , despair, defeat and rebirth , Chavela Vargas offers us a rare example of dignity , strength and determination , which, though filtered through essential fragility of the human soul , preserves intact and clear his message of truth. Truth becomes a flag of human existence and deeply meaningful artistic and uncompromising.
With his songs Chavela brings to the stage of its history and fragments of his soul, and in every melody , his voice “tragic” makes it sound solitude and silence.
The songs of Chavela Vargas , his truth and his stories , accompany us with strength, intensity and lightness cruel irony , in her world so and so surreal terrain , making us come back, as stated in the verse of a song , ” the simple things , the old places we loved life . “
