IL Quartetto “ARENARA” nasce a Cagliari nell’autunno del 2006. E’ costituito da 4 strumentisti: Luigi Lai alla fisarmonica, Alberto Susnik e Paolo Mereu alle chitarre e Matteo Marongiu al contrabbasso.

Le sonorità delle loro musiche riflettono i differenti percorsi musicali individuali, che spaziano dall’etnico al rock, dal jazz alla fusion non trascurando le esperienze di alcuni di essi in ambito cosiddetto “colto”.
L’orecchio del gruppo è però particolarmente attratto dai suoni del mondo, con particolare riguardo alle atmosfere solari dell’area mediterranea, da cui molte delle musiche traggono ispirazione.
Tale miscela di suggestioni sonore riecheggia continuamente, ed è riconoscibile, se fosse necessario definirla, nell’espressione “etno-jazz”;

COLLABORAZIONI:

Citiamo le collaborazioni con gli attori Isella Orchis e Cesare Saliu nel recital “Sbarchi”, e quelle con Gianluca Medas per i cui spettacoli Arenara ha scritto ed eseguito le musiche di scena per le sue narrazioni: La Passio Christi, La Ballata del Vecchio Marinaio, La notte di Tuvixeddu.
Realizzazione delle musiche per il cartone Muscas Magheddas in collaborazione con i creativi Riccardo Atzeni e Antonino Pirellas

ALCUNI CENNI SUI MUSICISTI:

ALBERTO SUSNIK
Chitarra, composizione, voce.
Ha collaborato con numerose formazioni di rilievo nell’ ambito della musica rock, etnica e “contaminata”, fra le quali Suonofficina (attuali Sonos), Tomato Ketchup e gli Isdenora con Marcello Ledda. Ha collaborato inoltre con diversi artisti in tournée all’estero e in produzioni discografiche. Tra esse: con Elena Ledda nel campo della musica tradizionale sarda, con Jenny Sorrenti (in una formazione in cui compaiono fra gli altri i musicisti Enzo Avitabile e Tony Cercola), e a Parigi con il cantautore algerino Majid Soula. Ha studiato composizione sperimentale e ha curato gli arrangiamenti del gruppo Isdenora.

LUIGI LAI
Fisarmonica – pianoforte – Composizione.

Alla fine degli anni 70 segue i corsi di composizione sperimentale al Conservatorio di Cagliari. Contemporaneamente si avvicina al Jazz collaborando con alcuni gruppi di dixieland e swing. Durante gli anni ‘80 partecipa a vari gruppi di musica Pop, Jazz e fusion ottenendo fra l’altro il premio come miglior pianista al seminario tenuto a Diano Marina dal Maestro Giorgio Gaslini e da Clifford Jordan. Nei primi anni ‘90 guida come pianista e compositore l’Open Jazz trio con A. Solla e Christian Manca e collabora con Sandro Angiolini e Sandro Fontoni. Dal 2005-2006 è fisarmonicista con i gruppi Ailà e Arenara.

PAOLO MEREU
Chitarra, composizione.

Contribuisce alla costituzione del gruppo musicale cagliaritano Tomato Ketchup, di cui compone parte delle musiche. Con lo stesso gruppo partecipa nell’autunno dell’85 al Zurich Jazz festival. Per alcuni anni segue le lezioni del corso sperimentale di Composizione del Maestro Franco Oppo presso il Conservatorio Musicale di Cagliari. La sua esperienza professionale nel mondo dell’informatica lo porta a collaborare al progetto e allo sviluppo del software musicale per chitarra (Hendrix) oltre che ad approfondire l’utilizzo del computer a scopi compositivi. E’ uno dei fondatori del gruppo Etnojazz Ailà. Nel 2006 costituisce insieme a Luigi Lai e Alberto Susnik il gruppo Arenara. Nel giugno del 2012 ha conseguito la laurea in Etnomusicologia con una tesi sull’influenza degli archivi sonori digitali sulla pratica e sugli studi nell’ambito delle musiche di tradizione orale.

MATTEO MARONGIU
Contrabbasso, composizione.

Inizia gli studi musicali nel 1994 frequentando il corso di violoncello al conservatorio di Cagliari. Nel 2000 abbandona il violoncello per il contrabbasso. Nel 2002 collabora con il gruppo rock-noise “Erika” col quale registra il disco “ Il mio stato normale”. Nel 2003 si iscrive alla scuola di 2007 consegue la laurea in Jazz e improvvisazione musicale e successivamente nel biennio di didattica. Nello stesso anno suona per i musicals “Hair” e “La febbre del sabato sera” ( nel quale è autore di parte degli arrangiamenti). Nel 2007 registra il disco “Ricami” per il cantautore Salvatore Ximenes. Nell’ambito del jazz, collabora con il progetto “34 corde” di Massimo Ferra.

Vi aspettiamo..THE Quartet ” ARENARA ” was born in Cagliari in the fall of 2006. E ‘ consists of 4 musicians : Luigi Lai on accordion , Alberto Susnik Paolo Mereu and Matteo Marongiu on guitars and bass .

The sound of their music reflect different individual music tracks , ranging from ethnic to rock, from jazz to fusion without neglecting the experiences of some of them in the field of so-called ” cultured” .
The ear of the group , however, is particularly attracted by the sounds of the world, with particular emphasis on solar atmosphere of the Mediterranean , from which many of the music inspired .
This mixture of sound suggestions constantly echoes , and is recognizable , if necessary define it, in the expression ” ethno -jazz ” ;

Examples include collaborations with actors Cesar Isella Orchis and Saliu in recital ” Landings ” , and those with Gianluca Medas for whose shows Arenara wrote and performed the music for his narrations : The Passion of Christ , The Rime of the Ancient Mariner , the night of Tuvixeddu .

SOME FACTS ON THE MUSICIANS :

ALBERTO Sušnik
Guitar , composition , voice.
He has worked with several bands prominent in the ‘ field of rock music , ethnic and ” contaminated ” , including Suonofficina ( current Sonos ) , Tomato Ketchup and Isdenora with Marcello Ledda . He has also collaborated with several artists on tour abroad and record productions . Among them: with Elena Ledda in the field of traditional Sardinian music , with Jenny Sorrenti ( in a formation in which they appear among the other musicians Enzo Avitabile and Tony Cercola) , and in Paris with the singer Algerian Majid Soula . He studied Composition and care of the arrangements of the group Isdenora .

Accordion – Piano – Composition .

At the end of the 70s she took courses in experimental composition at the Conservatory of Cagliari. At the same time approaches the Jazz collaborating with some groups of Dixieland and swing. During the 80s he participated in various music groups pop, jazz and fusion among other things, getting the award for best pianist at the seminar held in Diano Marina by Maestro Giorgio Gaslini and Clifford Jordan . PAUL MEREU
Guitar , composition.

Contribute to the creation of the musical group Cagliari Tomato Ketchup , which consists of the music . With the same group participates in the autumn of 85 to the Zurich Jazz festival. Matthew MARONGIU
Bass , composition.

He began his musical studies in 1994 attending the course in cello at the Conservatory of Cagliari. In 2000 he abandoned the cello for the bass. In 2002 he collaborated with rock- noise ” Erika ” with whom he recorded the album ” My normal state .” In 2003 he enrolled at the school in 2007 he obtained a degree in Jazz and improvised music and then in two years of teaching. In the same year he played for the musicals “Hair ” and ” Saturday Night Fever ” ( in which he is the author of some of the arrangements) . In 2007 recorded the album ” Embroidery ” for the singer-songwriter Salvatore Ximenes. As part of jazz, collaborating with the project ” 34 strings ” by Massimo Ferra .
