Non esistono pause per l’associazione Intermezzo Nuoro, da sempre impegnata nella realizzazione di progetti culturali in continua via di espansione nei diversi campi artistici supportati, come sempre, dalla matrice e ispiratrice musica jazz. La produzione AnimaNera, arrivata alla sua XIX edizione, partirà ad ottobre per terminare con il fiore all’occhiello della rassegna invernale: i concerti gospel. Sullo sfondo degli affascinanti paesi dell’entroterra sardo, i caldissimi canti evangelici vibreranno nelle chiese messe a disposizione dai comuni durante il periodo natalizio.
La rassegna inizierà il 15 ottobre alle 21 al Teatro Eliseo di Nuoro con il duo Tuck&Patti nella loro ultima data europea.
Il gruppo, vede la collaborazione artistica e professionale, temprata dalla relazione personale, tra questi due magnifici e simbiotici musicisti. Un sinuoso susseguirsi di note provenienti dallo strumento del chitarrista Tuck Andress, accompagna i vocalizzi danzanti di Patti Cathcart in un intangibile disegno capace di insinuarsi nell’animo e nella mente di chi ascolta, pervaso da una musicalità che gode di uno spirito semplice e gradevole trasmesso anche grazie alle esibizioni intense, assorte e tutelate da una complicità di sguardi solo brevemente ammessi.
“L’Italia è la nostra seconda casa” raccontano “siamo arrivati alla nostra quarantaquattresima visita e dal 1989 qui abbiamo visto tante città e paesi diversi. Amiamo questa terra. Abbiamo avuto modo di suonare con molti musicisti italiani e il loro entusiasmo non si vede in nessun’altra parte del mondo. Adoriamo la gente, il calore con cui ci accolgono e la loro gentilezza”.
Sulla tappa sarda aggiungono “Sarà la nostra prima volta a Nuoro, ma la seconda in Sardegna visto che ci siamo innamorati di Cala Gonone e siamo sicuri che sarà lo stesso per questa città anche se, nostro malgrado, sarà solo una breve visita”.
Concludono con una piccola anteprima sui loro progetti futuri “Quest’anno abbiamo organizzato un tour piuttosto impegnativo quindi saremo felici una volta tornati a casa e potremo dedicarci al nostro nuovo album, all’insegnamento (anche via Skype) e a noi stessi. Non ci lamentiamo perché ovunque andiamo, stiamo insieme e siamo grati per questo”.
Arrivati al trentacinquesimo anno di attività, il loro è binomio contrapposto da due forti personalità con il cuore votato da sempre alla musica.
Educati ad essa sin dall’infanzia, Tuck Andress è figlio di un musicista jazz e, sin da allora, viene attirato grazie al padre e alla sorella, allieva di piano, dall’idea di dedicarsi allo studio degli strumenti.
Patti Cathcart descrive il suo approccio al canto come qualcosa di innato e parte della sua essenza, comincia dunque ad esibirsi nelle chiese locali arrivando a dirigere un coro prima dei sedici anni e imparando a suonare il violino, unendosi a una banda musicale.
Da quel momento la sua sembra essere una carriera in ascesa, imponendosi con la sua prorompente personalità nella scena musicale di San Francisco durante gli anni ’60, entra a far parte di formazioni rock, blues, gospel e jazz. Tra le influenze della giovanissima Patti figurano i Beatles, Leontyne Price, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald e Sun Ra, istituzioni nella musica pop e jazz che le permettono di maturare la sua esperienza sul campo attraverso il loro ascendente e di conoscere diversi celebri artisti tra i quali spicca, come in un sogno, Jimi Hendrix.
A Tulsa, nel frattempo, si forma un timido ma determinato chitarrista sulle note dei Beatles e i Rolling Stones, migliorando la sua tecnica e includendo nel suo repertorio partiti orchestrali e complessi brani jazz, imparando moltissimo da autodidatta ed esercitandosi con alcuni gruppi rock, blues, R&B sino a esplorare diversi generi. Sviluppando una passione sempre maggiore per la chitarra, Tuck Andress comincia a studiare i pezzi di Hendrix e il suo stile nella composizione di testi e musica. Dopo una parentesi all’Università di Stanford, si reca a Los Angeles dove grazie al suo talento, ha l’opportunità di accompagnare Sonny e Cher in un loro spettacolo televisivo, ma decide di rinunciare e dedicarsi allo studio della musica soul conseguendo diversi titoli.
I due musicisti si incontrano “come se un radar ci avesse guidati verso la nostra anima gemella, verso quella persona speciale con cui puoi comunicare e lavorare” instaurando un legame artistico e affettivo rinsaldato dalle affini educazioni e gusti musicali (Beatles, Bob Dylan, Beach Boys, Woody Guthrie, Earth Wind and Fire) e nel 1981 i due si sposano.
Cominciano la “gavetta” alla fine degli anni ’70 con la particolarità di registrare tutto in presa diretta e nel 1988 firmano un contratto con la Windham Hill Jazz, incidendo l’album “Tears of Joy” consolidando il loro vincolo professionale e percorrendo la via della musica mano nella mano.
Da allora sono passati venticinque anni, quattordici album (“Love Warriors” 1989; “Reckless Precision” 1990; “Dream” 1991; “Hymns, Carols and Songs about Snow” 1992; “Best of Tuck & Patti” 1994; “Learning How to Fly” 1995; “Paradise Found” 1998; “Taking the Long Way Home” 2000; “As Time Goes By” 2001; “Chocolate Moment” 2002; “A Gift of Love” 2003;“Live in Holland” 2005; “Pure Tuck & Patti” 2006; “I Remember You” 2007), la collaborazione con numerosi artisti internazionali del calibro di Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Clarck Terry, Cab Calloway, Kenny Burnell e lezioni e tutorial per chiunque voglia intraprendere lo studio della chitarra e del canto. The production Animanera , reached its nineteenth edition , will start in October and ends with the highlight of the winter festival : the gospel concerts . Against the backdrop of charming villages of Sardinia , the very hot songs vibrate evangelical churches made ​​available by the municipalities during the Christmas season .
The event will start on October 15 at 21 at the Teatro Eliseo in Nuoro with the duo Tuck & Patti in their last European date .
The group sees the artistic collaboration and professional , tempered by the personal relationship between these two magnificent musicians and symbiotic . ” Italy is our second home ” tell ” we arrived at our forty-fourth visit since 1989 and we have seen many different cities and countries . We love this earth. We got to play with many Italian musicians and their enthusiasm is not seen anywhere else in the world. We love the people , the warmth with which we welcome and their kindness . “
On the Sardinian leg adding “It will be our first time in Nuoro , but the second in Sardinia since we fell in love Cala Gonone and we are sure will be the same for this city even though , unfortunately, will only be a short visit .”
They conclude with a little preview on their future projects “This year we organized a tour rather challenging so we will be happy when they get back home and we can concentrate on our new album, teaching (including via Skype) and to ourselves. Trained to it from childhood, Tuck Andress is the son of a jazz musician and, since then, is attracted by his father and sister , a student of piano , from the idea to devote himself to the study of the instruments.
Patti Cathcart describes his approach to singing as something innate and part of its essence , then begins to perform in local churches before coming to direct a choir of sixteen and learning to play the violin , joining a band .
From that moment on, his career seems to be on the rise , making its mark with its strong personality in the music scene of San Francisco during the ’60s , he joined the formations of rock, blues , gospel and jazz.
