Il Requiem preferito da Beethoven

Il  21 gennaio del 1817 Luigi Cherubini, da poco nominato Surintendant de la musique presso la cappella musicale reale parigina, dirige per la prima volta il suo “Requiem in do minore” nella cattedrale parigina di Saint Denis e  piange. Proprio come piangono tutti i presenti, secondo le testimonianze dell’epoca, ascoltando quest’opera composta su commissione di Luigi XVIII, re di Francia, in memoria del fratello Luigi XVI decapitato il 21 gennaio 1793.

Al di là dell’occasione commemorativa, a rendere particolarmente toccante la nuova composizione sono sicuramente le sue qualità intrinseche, che ne fanno un autentico capolavoro della musica sacra di tutti i tempi. Il “Requiem in do minore” viene preso a modello di perfezione da Beethoven, Brahms, Weber e Schumann. Ritenendo quest’opera superiore al Requiem mozartiano, Beethoven espresse la volontà di far eseguire questo requiem al proprio funerale, anche se poi le contingenze non lo resero possibile e l’esecuzione avvenne solamente in una messa commemorativa successiva alla sepoltura del compositiore. E quantomeno curioso che quest’opera lungamente ammirata ed eseguita, sia stato, poi, quasi dimenticata…..
