Evento dedicato a Butch Morris, scomparso il 29 Gennaio 2013, l’inventore della “Conduction”, forma di orchestrazione e direzione dell’improvvisazione collettiva, che Morris intendeva come ponte possibile tra la tradizione della musica classica e quella del jazz, nonché come attività laboratoriale.

Sono concepiti come Laboratorio di improvvisazione e composizione istantanea Daniele Ledda, con concerto finale.
Nelle prime 2 ore si acquisiscono i codici ed i gesti, nell’ultima ora si affronta una sessione aperta al pubblico.

“L’improvvisazione gode del privilegio di essere l’attività più largamente praticata e, nel contempo, la meno conosciuta e compresa.
Così esordisce Derek Bailey nel suo libro “L’improvvisazione – sua natura e pratica in musica”.
Il workshop è aperto a tutti i musicisti creativi di che intendano conoscere o approfondire l’universo della improvvisazione non idiomatica nelle sue varie possibilità.
Verranno affrontati, anche in relazione all’organico ed agli orientamenti degli iscritti, diversi argomenti: dall’improvvisazione strutturata all’improvvisazione libera, dalla conduzione alla lettura di partiture grafiche e videografiche.
In particolare si utilizzerà un sistema che fonde assieme diverse tecniche di improvvisazione guidata, partendo dal sistema Cobra di John Zorn dove il direttore raccoglie le richieste dei singoli musicisti e mostra dei segnali o gesti che determinano delle particolari interazioni tra gli esecutori, fino al sistema Soundpainting di Walter Thompson, un insieme di gesti tramite i quali il conduttore (o Soundpainter) indica ad un ensemble composto da musicisti, ballerini, attori, poeti, ecc. di eseguire un certo tipo di azione. Si utilizzeranno infine delle partiture videografiche, utilizzando i principi della spettro-morfologia di Denis Smalley.
Nel percorso gli iscritti verranno invitati ad esplorare nuove modalità di espressione con i propri strumenti ed a cercare diverse forme di interazione con gli altri attraverso l’attività di gruppo ed alcuni momenti di approfondimento individuali.
Negli incontri si affronta un approccio laboratoriale che rappresenti alcuni aspetti della pratica dell’improvvisazione differenti per natura e concezione, svincolandola dal contesto di genere cui viene spesso esclusivamente associata esplorando le potenzialità della creazione istantanea, coordinando suono, narrazione, visione e materia.

Event dedicated to Butch Morris, who died Jan. 29, 2013, the inventor of the “Conduction”, a form of orchestration and direction of improvisation collective, that Morris intended as a possible bridge between the classical music tradition and that of jazz, as well as activities workshop.

They are designed as a laboratory of improvisation and instant composition Daniele Ledda, with the final concert.
In the first 2 hours you will acquire the codes and gestures, the last time you deal with a session open to the public.

“Improvisation enjoys the privilege of being the most widely practiced activity and, at the same time, the least known and understood.
So begins Derek Bailey in his book “Improvisation – its nature and practice in music.”
The workshop is open to all creative musicians who want to know or learn the universe of non-idiomatic improvisation in its various possibilities.
Will be discussed, also in relation to the organic and the guidelines of the members, different topics: from improvisation structured free improvisation, run by the reading of graphic scores and videography.
In particular, we use a system that fuses together different techniques of guided improvisation, starting with John Zorn’s Cobra system where the manager collects the requests of the individual musicians and shows signs or gestures that determine the specific interactions between the performers, to the system Soundpainting Walter Thompson, a set of gestures through which the conductor (or Soundpainter) indicates an ensemble composed of musicians, dancers, actors, poets, etc.. to perform a certain type of action. Finally, we will use the scores in visual, using the principles of spectro-morphology of Denis Smalley.
In the course the participants will be encouraged to explore new ways of expression with their own tools and to seek different forms of interaction with others through group activities and some moments of depth individual.
In meetings addressing a workshop approach that represents some aspects of the practice of improvisation are different by nature and design, freeing it from the context of the kind which is often associated exclusively explored the possibilities of instant creation, coordinating sound, narration, and vision matter.
